| 86:1 سورة الطارق بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والسماء والطارق |

| Literal | And/by the sky/space, and/by the Night Comer/star (Morning Star). |

| 86:2 وماادراك ماالطارق |
| |

| Transliteration | Wama adraka ma alttariqu |
| Literal | And what made you know/informed you what the Night Comer/star (Morning Star is)? |

| Yusuf Ali | And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- |
| Pickthal | - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is! |
| Arberry | And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? |
| Shakir | And what will make you know what the comer by night is? |
| Sarwar | Do you know what al-tariq is?. |
| Khalifa | Do you know what Al-Taareq is? |
| Hilali/Khan | And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? |

| Malik | and what will explain to you what the visitant by night is?[2] |

| 86:3 النجم الثاقب |

| Transliteration | Alnnajmu alththaqibu |
| Literal | The star/planet, the lit/penetrating . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;- |
| Pickthal | - The piercing Star! |
| Arberry | The piercing star! |
| Shakir | The star of piercing brightness; |
| Sarwar | (It is a nightly radiant star). |

| 86:4 ان كل نفس لما عليها حافظ |

| Transliteration | In kullu nafsin lamma AAalayha hafithun |
| Literal | That truly every/each self (is) except on it a protector/safe keeper . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | There is no soul but has a protector over it. |
| Pickthal | No human soul but hath a guardian over it. |
| Arberry | Over every soul there is a watcher. |
| Shakir | There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. |
| Sarwar | There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). |
| Khalifa | Absolutely, everyone is well guarded. |
| Hilali/Khan | There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) |
| H/K/Saheeh | There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. |
| Malik | (Just as Allah Almighty is taking care of each star in the galaxies, similarly) over each soul there is an appointed guardian angel.[4] |
| QXP | There is no person without a watch being kept over him. (The Law of Requital is ever-vigilant). |
| Maulana Ali | There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. |
| Free Minds | Every soul has a recorder over it. |
| Qaribullah | For every soul there is a watcher. |

at-Tariq 086:005
| 86:5 فلينظر الانسان مم خلق |
| |

| Transliteration | Falyanthuri al-insanu mimma khuliqa |
| Literal | So the human/mankind should look/see from what he was created. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Now let man but think from what he is created! |
| Pickthal | So let man consider from what he is created. |
| Arberry | So let man consider of what he was created; |
| Shakir | So let man consider of what he is created: |
| Sarwar | Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. |
| Khalifa | Let the human reflect on his creation. |

| 86:6 خلق من ماء دافق |

| Literal | He was created from water pouring/flowing forcefully. |

| 86:7 يخرج من بين الصلب والترائب |

| Transliteration | Yakhruju min bayni alssulbi waalttara-ibi |
| Literal | It emerges/appears from between the spine and the rib bones. |

| Yusuf Ali | Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: |
| Pickthal | That issued from between the loins and ribs. |
| Arberry | issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. |
| Shakir | Coming from between the back and the ribs. |
| Sarwar | which comes out of the loins and ribs. |
| Khalifa | From between the spine and the viscera. |

at-Tariq 086:008
| 86:8 انه على رجعه لقادر |

| Transliteration | Innahu AAala rajAAihi laqadirun |
| Literal | That He truly (is) on returning him capable/able (E) . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! |
| Pickthal | Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) |
| Arberry | Surely He is able to bring him back |
| Shakir | Most surely He is able to return him (to life). |
| Sarwar | God has all power to resurrect him. |
| Khalifa | He is certainly able to resurrect him. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)! |

at-Tariq 086:009
| 86:9 يوم تبلى السرائر |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Yawma tubla alssara-iru |
| Literal | A day/time the secrets/intentions be tested. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, |
| Pickthal | On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. |
| Arberry | upon the day when the secrets are tried, |
| Shakir | On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, |
| Sarwar | On the day when all secrets will be made public, |
| Khalifa | The day all secrets become known. |
| Hilali/Khan | The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). |
| H/K/Saheeh | The Day when secrets will be put on trial, |
| Malik | on the Day when the hidden secrets will be brought to scrutiny,[9] |
| QXP | On the Day when all secrets will be disclosed. |
| Maulana Ali | On the day when hidden things are manifested, |
| Free Minds | The Day when all is revealed. |
| Qaribullah | on the Day when consciences are examined, |

| George Sale | the day whereon all secret thoughts and actions shall be examined into; |

at-Tariq 086:010
| 86:10 فماله من قوة ولاناصر |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Fama lahu min quwwatin wala nasirin |
| Literal | So (there is) no strength/power, and nor victorior/savior for him. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | (Man) will have no power, and no helper. |
| Pickthal | Then will he have no might nor any helper. |
| Arberry | and he shall have no strength, no helper. |
| Shakir | He shall have neither strength nor helper. |
| Sarwar | he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. |
| Khalifa | He will have no power, nor a helper. |
| Hilali/Khan | Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. |
| H/K/Saheeh | Then man will have no power or any helper. |
| Malik | then he will have neither power of his own nor any helper to save him from the punishment of Allah.[10] |

at-Tariq 086:011
| 86:11 والسماء ذات الرجع |
| |

| Transliteration | Waalssama-i thati alrrajAAi |
| Literal | And the sky/space that of the rain after rain/benefit . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | By the Firmament which returns (in its round), |
| Pickthal | By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, |
| Arberry | By heaven of the returning rain, |
| Shakir | I swear by the raingiving heavens, |
| Sarwar | By the rotating heavens |
| Khalifa | By the sky that returns (the water). |
| Hilali/Khan | By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. |

| Malik | By the sky which sends down rain[11] |
| QXP | Witness is the high atmosphere that keeps returning (its water, gases and other composition). |

at-Tariq 086:012
| 86:12 والارض ذات الصدع |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Waal-ardi thati alssadAAi |
| Literal | And the earth/Planet Earth that of the split/separation/geological rift-fault line . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- |
| Pickthal | And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) |
| Arberry | by earth splitting with verdure, |
| Shakir | And the earth splitting (with plants); |
| Sarwar | and the replenishing earth, |
| Khalifa | By the earth that cracks (to grow plants). |
| Hilali/Khan | And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), |
| H/K/Saheeh | And [by] the earth which cracks open, |
| Malik | and by the earth which is ever bursting with new growth;[12] |
| QXP | And witness is the earth which cracks open for springs and plants. |
| Maulana Ali | And the earth opening (with herbage)! |

at-Tariq 086:013
| 86:13 انه لقول فصل |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Innahu laqawlun faslun |
| Literal | That it truly is a word/statement (of) judgment/partition (decisive). |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): |
| Pickthal | Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, |
| Arberry | surely it is a decisive word; |
| Shakir | Most surely it is a decisive word, |
| Sarwar | the Quran is the final word, |
| Khalifa | This is a serious narration. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil). |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, the Qurâ an is a decisive statement, |
| Malik | surely this Qur’an is a decisive word,[13] |
| QXP | Behold, this (Qur'an) is a Conclusive Word. (That can give you a new life. (40:29)). |
| Maulana Ali | Surely it is a decisive word, |
| Free Minds | This is the word that separates matters. |
| Qaribullah | this is indeed a Decisive Word, |

| George Sale | Verily this is a discourse distinguishing good from evil; |

| 86:15 انهم يكيدون كيدا |

| Transliteration | Innahum yakeedoona kaydan |
| Literal | That they truly plot/conspire a plot/conspiracy . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, |
| Pickthal | Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) |
| Arberry | They are devising guile, |
| Shakir | Surely they will make a scheme, |
| Sarwar | They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, |
| Khalifa | They plot and scheme. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, they are planning a plan, |
| Malik | These unbelievers of Mecca are plotting a scheme:[15] |
| QXP | (Yet) Behold, they plot and scheme (to refute the Truth (34:33)). |
| Maulana Ali | Surely they plan a plan. |
| Free Minds | They are scheming their schemes. |
| Qaribullah | They are cunningly devising, |
| |

| George Sale | Verily the infidels are laying a plot to frustrate my designs: |

| Asad | Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; |
at-Tariq 086:016
| 86:16 واكيد كيدا |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Waakeedu kaydan |
| Literal | And I plot/conspire a plot/conspiracy . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And I am planning a scheme. |
| Pickthal | And I plot a plot (against them). |
| Arberry | and I am devising guile. |
| Shakir | And I (too) will make a scheme. |
| Sarwar | but I too plan against them. |
| Khalifa | But so do I. |
| Hilali/Khan | And I (too) am planning a plan. |
| H/K/Saheeh | But I am planning a plan. |
| Malik | and I, too, am plotting a scheme.[16] |
| QXP | But My Law works its own Way. |
| Maulana Ali | And I plan a plan. |
| Free Minds | And I scheme a scheme. |
| Qaribullah | and I am cunningly devising. |

| George Sale | But I will lay a plot for their ruin. |
| JM Rodwell | And I will plot a plot against them. |

| Asad | but I shall bring all their scheming to nought. |
at-Tariq 086:017
| 86:17 فمهل الكافرين امهلهم رويدا |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Famahhili alkafireena amhilhum ruwaydan |
| Literal | So delay/give time (to) the disbelievers, delay them/give them time slowly/gently. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). |
| Pickthal | So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. |
| Arberry | So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. |
| Shakir | So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a |
| Sarwar | Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. |
| Khalifa | Just respite the disbelievers a short respite. |
| Hilali/Khan | So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. |
| H/K/Saheeh | So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile. |
| Malik | Therefore, leave the unbelievers alone. Leave them alone for a while.[17] |
| QXP | Therefore give the rejecters some time. Leave them alone for a while. |
| Maulana Ali | So grant the disbelievers a respite -- let them alone for a while. |
| Free Minds | So respite the rejecters, respite them for a while. |
| Qaribullah | Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. |

|
| George Sale | Wherefore, O prophet, bear with the unbelievers: Let them alone a while. |
| JM Rodwell | Deal calmly therefore with the infidels; leave them awhile alone. |
| |
|
| Asad | Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while! |
