| Transliteration | Waqaloo law kunna nasmaAAu aw naAAqilu ma kunna fee as-habi alssaAAeeri |
| Literal | And they said: "If we were hearing/listening or reasoning/comprehending we would not have been in (between) the blazing's/inflamed's (inferno's) owners/company/friends." |
| Yusuf Ali | They will further say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!" |
