| Transliteration | Wama yanbaghee lilrrahmani an yattakhitha waladan |
| Literal | And (it) would not (be) to the merciful that He takes a child (son). |
| Yusuf Ali | For it is not consonant with the majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son. |
| Pickthal | When it is not meet for (the Majesty of) the Beneficent that He should choose a son. |
| Arberry | and it behoves not the All-merciful to take a son. |
| Shakir | And it is not worthy of the Beneficent Allah that He should take (to Himself) a son. |
| Sarwar | The Beneficent God is too Exalted to have a son. |
| Khalifa | It is not befitting the Most Gracious that He should beget a son. |
| Hilali/Khan | But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Beneficent (Allah) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children). |
| H/K/Saheeh | And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son. |
| Malik | It is not befitting to the Compassionate (God) that He should beget a son.[92] |
