| Transliteration | Fanabathnahu bialAAara-i wahuwa saqeemun |
| Literal | So We casted him off/discarded him at the open space and (while) he is sick/ill . |
| Yusuf Ali | But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, |
| Pickthal | Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; |
| Arberry | but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, |
| Shakir | Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. |
