| Transliteration | Wa-in kanoo layaqooloona |
| Literal | And if they (the disbelievers) were saying (E): |
| Yusuf Ali | And there were those who said, |
| Pickthal | And indeed they used to say: |
| Arberry | What though they would say, |
| Shakir | And surely they used to say: |
