al-Ma'un 107:001
107:1 سورة الماعون بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ ارايت الذي يكذب بالدين |

Transliteration | Araayta allathee yukaththibu bialddeeni |
Literal | Did you see/understand who lies/denies/falsifies with the religion? |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)? |
Pickthal | Hast thou observed him who belieth religion? |
Arberry | Hast thou seen him who cries lies to the Doom? |
Shakir | Have you considered him who calls the judgment a lie? |
Sarwar | Have you seen the one who calls the religion a lie?. |
Khalifa | Do you know who really rejects the faith? |
Hilali/Khan | Have you seen him who denies the Recompense? |
H/K/Saheeh | Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense? |
Malik | Have you seen the one who denies the Day of Judgment?[1] |
QXP | Have you seen him who proclaims allegiance to the Divine System, but denies it in action? ((53:33), (75:32-33), (95:7). 'Takzeeb' = Denying in practice). |
Maulana Ali | Hast thou seen him who belies religion? |
Free Minds | Do you know who rejects the system? |
Qaribullah | Have you seen he who belied the Recompense? |

al-Ma'un 107:002
107:2 فذلك الذي يدع اليتيم |
|

Transliteration | Fathalika allathee yaduAAAAu alyateema |
Literal | So that (is) who turns down/repels the orphan . |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), |
Pickthal | That is he who repelleth the orphan, |
Arberry | That is he who repulses the orphan |
Shakir | That is the one who treats the orphan with harshness, |
Sarwar | It is he who turns down the orphans |
Khalifa | That is the one who mistreats the orphans. |
Hilali/Khan | That is he who repulses the orphan (harshly), |
H/K/Saheeh | For that is the one who drives away the orphan |
Malik | He it is who drives away the orphan with harshness[2] |
QXP | Behold, that is he who repels the orphan, the widow, the helpless, the one in a lonely state. (89:10), (69:34). |
Maulana Ali | That is the one who is rough to the orphan, |
Free Minds | It is the one who mistreats the orphans. |
Qaribullah | It is he who turns away the orphan |

Asad | Behold, it is this [kind of man] that thrusts the orphan away, |
al-Ma'un 107:003
107:3 ولايحض على طعام المسكين |

Transliteration | Wala yahuddu AAala taAAami almiskeeni |
Literal | And does not urge/insight/influence on feeding the poorest of poor/poor oppressed. |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. |
Pickthal | And urgeth not the feeding of the needy. |
Arberry | and urges not the feeding of the needy. |
Shakir | And does not urge (others) to feed the poor. |
Sarwar | and never encourages the feeding of the destitute. |
Khalifa | And does not advocate the feeding of the poor. |
Hilali/Khan | And urges not the feeding of AlMiskeen (the poor), |
H/K/Saheeh | And does not encourage the feeding of the poor. |
Malik | and does not encourage the feeding of the poor.[3] |
QXP | And urges not the feeding of the needy. And participates not in helping those who have lost their jobs, whose businesses have stalled, and whose hard earned income is insufficient to meet their basic needs. |
Maulana Ali | And urges not the feeding of the needy. |
Free Minds | And does not encourage the feeding of the poor. |
Qaribullah | and does not urge others to feed the needy. |

107:4 فويل للمصلين |

Transliteration | Fawaylun lilmusalleena |
Literal | So calamity/scandal/woe to the prayers (praying people). |

Yusuf Ali | So woe to the worshippers |
Pickthal | Ah, woe unto worshippers |
Arberry | So woe to those that pray |
Shakir | So woe to the praying ones, |
Sarwar | Woe to the worshippers |
Khalifa | And woe to those who observe the contact prayers (Salat) - |
Hilali/Khan | So woe unto those performers of Salat (prayers) (hypocrites), |

107:5 الذين هم عن صلاتهم ساهون |

Transliteration | Allatheena hum AAan salatihim sahoona |
Literal | Those whom they are about their prayers negligent/inattentive . |

Yusuf Ali | Who are neglectful of their prayers, |
Pickthal | Who are heedless of their prayer; |
Arberry | and are heedless of their prayers, |
Shakir | Who are unmindful of their prayers, |
Sarwar | who become confused during their prayers, |
Khalifa | who are totally heedless of their prayers. |
Hilali/Khan | Who delay their Salat (prayer) from their stated fixed times, |
H/K/Saheeh | [But] who are heedless of their prayer |
Malik | but are neglectful of their Salah (offer Prayers but disregard the very purpose of establishing Salah - to have the fear of Allah and be mindful to the needs of other people);[5] |
QXP | They know not what their prayer is meant to be! |
Maulana Ali | Who are unmindful of their prayer! |
Free Minds | But who are totally heedless of their contact-method. |
Qaribullah | who are heedless of their prayers (delaying them from their prescribed times), |

al-Ma'un 107:006
107:6 الذين هم يراؤون |
|
|
Transliteration | Allatheena hum yuraoona |
Literal | Those whom they are pretending/showing off (what they are not). |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), |
Pickthal | Who would be seen (at worship) |
Arberry | to those who make display |
Shakir | Who do (good) to be seen, |
Sarwar | who show off (his good deeds) |
Khalifa | They only show off. |
Hilali/Khan | Those who do good deeds only to be seen (of men), |
H/K/Saheeh | Those who make show [of their deeds] |
Malik | those who make a show of piety[6] |
QXP | They only want to be seen and praised. (9:54). (They go through motions of prayer and keep announcing it). |
Maulana Ali | Who do (good) to be seen, |

al-Ma'un 107:007
107:7 ويمنعون الماعون |
|
|
Transliteration | WayamnaAAoona almaAAoona |
Literal | And they prevent/stop the charity . |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs. |
Pickthal | Yet refuse small kindnesses! |
Arberry | and refuse charity. |
Shakir | And withhold the necessaries of life. |
Sarwar | and refuse to help the needy. |
Khalifa | And they forbid charity. |
Hilali/Khan | And refuse Al-Maoon (small kindnesses e.g. salt, sugar, water, etc.). |
H/K/Saheeh | And withhold [simple] assistance. |
Malik | and refuse to share the necessities of life.[7] |
QXP | And, with all this, they put dams before the Spring of Sustenance. ('Ma'n' = Running water. 'Mu'in' = Source of sustenance with plenty of fresh water springs. (23:50)). |
Maulana Ali | And refrain from acts of kindness! |
Free Minds | And they deter from helping others. |
Qaribullah | and prevent the utensils of assistance. |

Asad | and, withal, deny all assistance [to their fellow-men]! |
