59:1 سورة الحشر بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ سبح لله مافي السماوات ومافي الارض وهو العزيز الحكيم


TransliterationSabbaha lillahi ma fee alssamawati wama fee al-ardi wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu
LiteralPraised/glorified to God what (is) in the skies/space and what (is) in the earth/Planet Earth, and He is the glorious/mighty , the wise/judicious.

Yusuf AliWhatever is in the heavens and on earth, let it declare the Praises and Glory of Allah: for He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
PickthalAll that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Arberry All that is in the heavens and the earth magnifies God; He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.
ShakirWhatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth declares the glory of Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
SarwarAll that is in the heavens and the earth glorify God. He is the Majestic and All-wise.

al-Hashr 059:002

59:2 هو الذي اخرج الذين كفروا من اهل الكتاب من ديارهم لاول الحشر ماظننتم ان يخرجوا وظنوا انهم مانعتهم حصونهم من الله فاتاهم الله من حيث لم يحتسبوا وقذف في قلوبهم الرعب يخربون بيوتهم بايديهم وايدي المؤمنين فاعتبروا يااولي الابصار


TransliterationHuwa allathee akhraja allatheena kafaroo min ahli alkitabi min diyarihim li-awwali alhashri ma thanantum an yakhrujoo wathannoo annahum maniAAatuhum husoonuhum mina Allahi faatahumu Allahu min haythu lam yahtasiboo waqathafa fee quloobihimu alrruAAba yukhriboona buyootahum bi-aydeehim waaydee almu/mineena faiAAtabiroo ya olee al-absari
LiteralHe is who brought out those who disbelieved from The Book's people from their homes/countries to the gathering's beginning, you did not think/assume that (E) they emerge , and they thought/assumed , that they, their fortresses/fortification are protecting them/making them invincible from God, so God came to them from where/when they did not think/suppose, and He threw/hurled in their hearts/minds the terror/fright, they destroy/demolish their houses/homes with their hands, and the believers' hands, so be warned/cautioned, you (owners) of the eye sights/knowledge.

Yusuf AliIt is He Who got out the Unbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering (of the forces). Little did ye think that they would get out: And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah! But the (Wrath of) Allah came to them from quarters from which they little expected (it), and cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their dwellings by their own hands and the hands of the Believers, take warning, then, O ye with eyes (to see)!
PickthalHe it is Who hath caused those of the People of the Scripture who disbelieved to go forth from their homes unto the first exile. Ye deemed not that they would go forth, while they deemed that their strongholds would protect them from Allah. But Allah reached them from a place whereof they recked not, and cast terror in their hearts so that they ruined their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson, O ye who have eyes!
Arberry It is He who expelled from their habitations the unbelievers among the People of the Book at the first mustering. You did not think that they would go forth, and they thought that their fortresses would defend them against God; then God came upon them from whence they had not reckoned, and He cast terror into their hearts as they destroyed their houses with their own hands, and the hands of the believers; therefore take heed, you who have eyes!
ShakirHe it is Who caused those who disbelieved of the followers of the Book to go forth from their homes at the first banishment you did not think that they would go forth, while they were certain that their fortresses would defend them against Allah; but Allah came to them whence they did not expect, and cast terror into their hearts; they demolished their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers; therefore take a lesson, O you who have eyes!
SarwarHad God not decreed exile for them, He would have certainly punished them (in some other way). In this life and in the next life they would have suffered the torment of hell fire.
KhalifaHe is the One who evicted those who disbelieved among the people of the scripture from their homes in a mass exodus. You never thought that they would leave, and they thought that their preparations would protect them from GOD. But then GOD came to them whence they never expected, and threw terror into their hearts. Thus, they abandoned their homes on their own volition, in addition to pressure from the believers. You should learn from this, O you who possess vision.
Hilali/KhanHe it is Who drove out the disbelievers among the people of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews of the tribe of Banee An-Nadeer) from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think that they would get out. And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah! But Allahs (Torment) reached them from a place whereof they expected it not, and He cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their own dwellings with their own hands and the hands of the believers. Then take admonition, O you with eyes (to see).

You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah; but [the decree of] Allah came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.
MalikIt is He Who drove the disbelievers from among the People of the Book (reference is to the Jewish tribe of Banu Al-Nadir) out of their homes at the first banishment. You did not think that they would ever go out; and they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah, but the wrath of Allah came to them from where they never expected - which cast such terror into their hearts - that they destroyed their homes by their own hands as well as by the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson from this example! O people of insight.[2]
QXPHe it is Who got out the rejecters among the People of the Book from their dwelling places at the very gathering of the forces. You deemed not that they would leave and they deemed that their strongholds would defend them against Allah. But Allah reached them in a manner they little expected and caused awe in their hearts. So they dismantled their dwellings by their own hands and the hands of the believers. Learn a lesson, then, O You who have vision!

Therefore, take heed you that have eyes.

George SaleIt was He who caused those who believed not, of the people who receive the scripture, to depart from their habitations at the first emigration. Ye did not think that they would go forth: And they thought that their fortresses would protect them against God. But the chastisement of God came upon them, from whence they did not expect, and He cast terror into their hearts. They pulled down their houses with their own hands, and the hands of the true believers. Wherefore take example from them, O ye who have eyes.

AsadHe it is who turned out of their homes, at the time of [their] first gathering [for war], such of the followers of earlier revelation as were bent on denying the truth. [For this and the subsequent historical references, see the introductory note to this surah. The tribe of Banu n-Nadir - who, as Jews, are naturally termed ahl al-kitab ("followers of earlier revelation") - are characterized as "such as were bent on denying the truth" (alladhina kafaru, see note on 2:6) because they treacherously turned against the Prophet despite their earlier admission that he was truly the bearer of God's message announced in their own holy scriptures (Deuteronomy xviii, 15 and 18).] You did not think [O believers] that they would depart [without resistance] - just as they thought that their strongholds would protect them against God: but God came upon them in a manner which they had not expected, and cast terror into their hearts; [Lit., "from whence they had not thought (it possible)": an allusion to the last-minute, unexpected failure of Abd Allah ibn Ubayy to come to their aid.] [and thus] they destroyed their homes by their own hands as well as the hands of the believers. [As mentioned in the introductory note, the Banu n-Nadir had originally concluded a treaty of mutual non-interference with the Muslim community, and were to live at Medina as its friendly neighbours; and even later, when their hostility to the Muslims had become apparent and they were ordered to emigrate, they were to be allowed to retain ownership of their plantations. Subsequently, however, they forfeited by their treachery both their citizenship and the rights to their landed property, and thus "destroyed their homes by their own hands".] Learn a lesson, then, O you who are endowed with insight!



al-Hashr 059:003

59:3 ولولا ان كتب الله عليهم الجلاء لعذبهم في الدنيا ولهم في الاخرة عذاب النار


TransliterationWalawla an kataba Allahu AAalayhimu aljalaa laAAaththabahum fee alddunya walahum fee al-akhirati AAathabu alnnari
LiteralWhere it not for that (E) God wrote/decreed the departure/moving out on them, He would have tortured them in the present world, and for them in the end (other life is) the fire's torture.

Yusuf AliAnd had it not been that Allah had decreed banishment for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world: And in the Hereafter they shall (certainly) have the Punishment of the Fire.
PickthalAnd if Allah had not decreed migration for them, He verily would have punished them in the world, and theirs in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
Arberry Had God not prescribed dispersal for them, He would have chastised them in this world; and there awaits them in the world to come the chastisement of the Fire.
ShakirAnd had it not been that Allah had decreed for them the exile, He would certainly have punished them in this world, and m the hereafter they shall have chastisement of the fire.
SarwarThis is because they opposed God and His Messenger and whoever opposes God should know that God's retribution is severe.
KhalifaIf GOD did not force them to leave, He would have requited them in this life (even worse than forcing them to leave). In the Hereafter He will commit them to the retribution of Hell.
Hilali/KhanAnd had it not been that Allah had decreed exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world, and in the Hereafter theirs shall be the torment of the Fire.
H/K/SaheehAnd if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
MalikHad Allah not decreed exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world, and in the hereafter there shall be the punishment of the fire for them,[3]
QXPAnd if Allah had not decreed banishment for them, behold, He would have punished them harder in this world, yet for them is suffering of the Fire in the life to come.
Maulana AliAnd had it not been that Allah had decreed for them the exile, He would certainly have chastised them in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is the chastisement of Fire.
Free MindsAnd had God not decreed to banish them, He would have punished them in this life. And in the Hereafter they will face the retribution of the Fire.
Qaribullah Had it been that Allah had not decreed that they should be dispersed, He would have surely punished them in this world. And in the Everlasting Life the punishment of the Fire awaits them,

George SaleAnd if God had not doomed them to banishment, He had surely punished them in this world; and in the world to come they shall suffer the torment of hell fire.
JM RodwellAnd were it not that God had decreed their exile, surely in this world would he have chastised them: but in the world to come the chastisement of the fire awaiteth them.

AsadAnd had it not been for God's having ordained banishment for them, He would indeed have imposed [yet greater] suffering on them in this world: still, in the life to come there awaits them suffering through fire:



al-Hashr 059:004

59:4 ذلك بانهم شاقوا الله ورسوله ومن يشاق الله فان الله شديد العقاب


TransliterationThalika bi-annahum shaqqoo Allaha warasoolahu waman yushaqqi Allaha fa-inna Allaha shadeedu alAAiqabi
LiteralThat (is) with that they defied/disobeyed God and His messenger, and who defies/disobeys God, so then God (is) strong (severe) in the punishment.

Yusuf AliThat is because they resisted Allah and His Messenger: and if any one resists Allah, verily Allah is severe in Punishment.
PickthalThat is because they were opposed to Allah and His messenger; and whoso is opposed to Allah, (for him) verily Allah is stern in reprisal.
Arberry That is because they made a breach with God and His Messenger; and whosoever makes a breach with God, God is terrible in retribution.
ShakirThat is because they acted in opposition to Allah and His Messenger, and whoever acts in opposition to Allah, then surely Allah is severe in retributing (evil).
SarwarAll the productive palm-trees (of the Jews hostile to you) which you cut down or left untouched were the will of God to bring disgrace upon the evil-doers.
KhalifaThis is because they opposed GOD and His messenger. For those who oppose GOD and His messenger, GOD is most strict in enforcing retribution.
Hilali/KhanThat is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW). And whosoever opposes Allah, then verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.
H/K/SaheehThat is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah then indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
Malikbecause they set themselves up against Allah and His Messenger; and he that sets himself up against Allah should know that Allah is stern in retribution.[4]
QXPThis, because they had opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah, for him Allah is Stern in grasping.
Maulana AliThat is because they were opposed to Allah and His Messenger, and whoever is opposed to Allah, surely Allah is Severe in retribution.
Free MindsThis is because they challenged God and His messenger. And whosoever challenges God, then God is severe in punishment.
Qaribullah because they broke their promise with Allah and His Messenger; and whosoever breaks their promise with Allah Allah is Stern in retribution.

George SaleThis, because they opposed God and his Apostle: And whoso opposeth God, verily God will be severe in punishing him.
JM RodwellThis because they set them against God and his apostle; and whoso setteth him against God. . . . ! God truly is vehement in punishing.

Asadthis, because they cut themselves off from God and His Apostle: and as for him who cuts himself off from God and His Apostle - verily, God is severe in retribution! al-Hashr 059:005

59:5 ماقطعتم من لينة او تركتموها قائمة على اصولها فباذن الله وليخزي الفاسقين


TransliterationMa qataAAtum min leenatin aw taraktumooha qa-imatan AAala osooliha fabi-ithni Allahi waliyukhziya alfasiqeena
LiteralWhat you cut off from a palm , or you left it standing on its roots , so (it is) with God's permission/pardon, and to reimburse the debauchers .

Yusuf AliWhether ye cut down (O ye Muslim!) The tender palm-trees, or ye left them standing on their roots, it was by leave of Allah, and in order that He might cover with shame the rebellious transgresses.
PickthalWhatsoever palm-trees ye cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah's leave, in order that He might confound the evil-livers.
Arberry Whatever palm-trees you cut down, or left standing upon their roots, that was by God's leave, and that He might degrade the ungodly.
ShakirWhatever palm-tree you cut down or leave standing upon its roots, It is by Allah's command, and that He may abase the transgressors.
SarwarSince you did not have to exhaust your horses and camels or (even fight), God granted to His Messenger their property. God gives authority to His Messenger over whomever He wants. God has power over all things.
KhalifaWhether you chop a tree or leave it standing on its trunk is in accordance with GOD's will. He will surely humiliate the wicked.
Hilali/KhanWhat you (O Muslims) cut down of the palm-trees (of the enemy), or you left them standing on their stems, it was by Leave of Allah, and in order that He might disgrace the Fasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
H/K/SaheehWhatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks it was by permission of Allah and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.
MalikWhatever palm-trees you cut down or left them standing on their roots, was by the leave of Allah, so that He might humiliate the transgressors.[5]
QXPWhatever softness you disregarded, or kept up by way of principle, was in accord with Allah's Command, in order that He might disgrace those who drifted away from their treaties.('Lina' = Softness, gentleness = Soft young palm tree. 'Fasiq' = One who drifts away).
Maulana AliWhatever palm-tree you cut down or leave it standing upon its roots, it is by Allah’s permission, and that He may abase the transgressors.
Free MindsWhether you cut down a tree or left it standing on its root, it was by God's leave. He will surely humiliate the wicked.
Qaribullah Whatever palmtree you cut down or left standing upon its roots, it is by the permission of Allah, so that He might humiliate the impious.

JM RodwellYour cutting down some of their palm trees and sparing others was by God's permission, and to put the wicked to shame.

AsadWhatever [of their] palm trees you may have cut down, [O believers,] or left standing on their roots, was [done] by God's leave, and in order that He might confound the iniquitous. [I.e., to facilitate the military operations against the strongholds of the Banu n-Nadir (Abd Allah ibn Masud, as quoted by Zamakhshari et al.). It should, however, be noted that apart from such stringent military exigencies, all destruction of enemy property - and, in particular, of trees and crops - had been and continued to be prohibited by the Prophet (Tabari, Baghawi, Zamakhshari, Razi, Ibn Kathir), and has thus become an integral part of Islamic Law.]



al-Hashr 059:006

59:6 وماافاء الله على رسوله منهم فما اوجفتم عليه من خيل ولاركاب ولكن الله يسلط رسله على من يشاء والله على كل شئ قدير


TransliterationWama afaa Allahu AAala rasoolihi minhum fama awjaftum AAalayhi min khaylin wala rikabin walakinna Allaha yusallitu rusulahu AAala man yashao waAllahu AAala kulli shay-in qadeerun
LiteralAnd what God bestowed upon/gave spoils of war on His messenger from them, so you did not hurry/rush on him from horses, and nor camels ridden or loaded/riders , and but God empowers His messengers on whom He wills/wants , and God is on every thing capable. (Whatever God gave His messenger is not from your support but through God's blessing.)

Yusuf AliWhat Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from them - for this ye made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry: but Allah gives power to His messengers over any He pleases: and Allah has power over all things.
PickthalAnd that which Allah gave as spoil unto His messenger from them, ye urged not any horse or riding-camel for the sake thereof, but Allah giveth His messenger lordship over whom He will. Allah is Able to do all things.
Arberry And whatever spoils of war God has given unto His Messenger from them, against that you pricked neither horse nor camel; but God gives authority to His Messengers over whomsoever He will. God is powerful over everything.
ShakirAnd whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from them you did not press forward against it any horse or a riding camel but Allah gives authority to His messengers against whom He pleases, and Allah has power over all things.
SarwarThe poor immigrants who were deprived of their homes and property, who seek favors and pleasures from God, and help Him and His Messenger will also have (a share in the said property). These people are the truthful ones.
KhalifaWhatever GOD restored for His messenger was not the result of your war efforts, whether you fought on horses or on foot. GOD is the One who sends His messengers against whomever He wills. GOD is Omnipotent.
Hilali/KhanAnd what Allah gave as booty (Fai) to His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from them, for which you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry. But Allah gives power to His Messengers over whomsoever He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things.
H/K/SaheehAnd what Allah restored [of property] to His Messenger from them you did not spur for it [in an expedition] any horses or camels, but Allah gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent.
MalikAs for those spoils of theirs which Allah has bestowed on His Messenger, you spurred neither cavalry nor camelry to capture them: but Allah gives authority to His Messengers over whom He pleases, for Allah has power over all things.[6]
QXPAnd whatever Allah has turned over to His Messenger, you did not toil on any horse or camel for it. But Allah gives His Messengers upper hand according to His Laws. For, Allah is the Appointer of due measure for all things.
Maulana AliAnd whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from them, you did not press forward against it any horse or any riding-camel, but Allah gives authority to His messengers against whom He pleases. And Allah is Possessor of power over all things.
Free MindsAnd what God provided to His messenger, without you having to battle for it on horses or on foot, was because God sends His emissaries against whomever He wills. And God is capable of all things.
Qaribullah And whatever spoils of war Allah has given to His Messenger from them, you hastened on neither horse nor camel against them, but Allah gives His Messengers authority over whom He will. Allah is Powerful over all things.

George SaleAnd as to the spoils of these people which God hath granted wholly to this Apostle, ye did not push forward any horses or camels against the same; but God giveth unto his Apostles dominion over whom He pleaseth: For God is almighty.
JM RodwellAfter the spoils of these Jews which God hath assigned to his apostle, ye pressed not with horse or camel. But God giveth his apostles power over what he will. God is Almighty.

AsadYet [remember:] whatever [spoils taken] from the enemy [Lit., "from them": i.e., from the Banu n-Nadir.] God has turned over to His Apostle, you did not have to spur horse or riding-camel for its sake: [I.e., "you did not have to fight for it, since the enemy surrendered without giving battle". The term fay (a noun derived from the verb faa, "he returned (something)" or "turned [it] over") is applied in the Quran and the Traditions exclusively to war-gains - whether consisting of lands, or tribute, or indemnities - which are obtained, as a condition of peace, from an enemy who has laid down arms before actual fighting has taken place (Taj al-Arus).] but God gives His apostles mastery over whomever He wills - for God has the power to will anything.



al-Hashr 059:007

59:7 ماافاء الله على رسوله من اهل القرى فلله وللرسول ولذي القربى واليتامى والمساكين وابن السبيل كي لايكون دولة بين الاغنياء منكم ومااتاكم الرسول فخذوه ومانهاكم عنه فانتهوا واتقوا الله ان الله شديد العقاب


TransliterationMa afaa Allahu AAala rasoolihi min ahli alqura falillahi walilrrasooli walithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeni waibni alssabeeli kay la yakoona doolatan bayna al-aghniya-i minkum wama atakumu alrrasoolu fakhuthoohu wama nahakum AAanhu faintahoo waittaqoo Allaha inna Allaha shadeedu alAAiqabi
LiteralWhat God bestowed upon/gave spoils of war on His messenger from the villages'/urban cities' people , so (it is) to God and the messenger, and to of the relations/near, and the orphans , and the poorest of poor/poor oppressed, and the traveler/stranded traveler, in order that (it) not be a rotation/alternation between the rich from you, and what the messenger gave you , so take/receive it , and what he forbid/prevented you from it, so terminate/stop , and fear and obey God, so that truly God (is) strong (severe in) the punishment.

Yusuf AliWhat Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from the people of the townships,- belongs to Allah,- to His Messenger and to kindred and orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; In order that it may not (merely) make a circuit between the wealthy among you. So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. And fear Allah; for Allah is strict in Punishment.

And whatsoever the messenger giveth you, take it. And whatsoever he forbiddeth, abstain (from it). And keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is stern in reprisal.
Arberry Whatsoever spoils of war God has given to His Messenger from the people of the cities belongs to God, and His Messenger, and the near kinsman, orphans, the needy and the traveller, so that it be not a thing taken in turns among the rich of you. Whatever the Messenger gives you, take; whatever he forbids you, give over. And fear God; surely God is terrible in retribution.

SarwarThose who established a community center and embraced the faith before the arrival of the immigrants love those who have come to their town. They are not jealous of what is given to the immigrants. They give preference to them over themselves - even concerning the things that they themselves urgently need. Whoever controls his greed will have everlasting happiness.
KhalifaWhatever GOD restored to His messenger from the (defeated) communities shall go to GOD and His messenger (in the form of a charity). You shall give it to the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien. Thus, it will not remain monopolized by the strong among you. You may keep the spoils given to you by the messenger, but do not take what he enjoins you from taking. You shall reverence GOD. GOD is strict in enforcing retribution.
Hilali/KhanWhat Allah gave as booty (Fai) to His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from the people of the townships, - it is for Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), the kindred (of Messenger Muhammad SAW), the orphans, AlMasakin (the poor), and the wayfarer, in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it) , and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.
H/K/SaheehAnd what Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the [stranded] traveler so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you take; and what he has forbidden you refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
MalikWhatever spoils from the dwellers of the township Allah has bestowed on His Messenger, shall belong to Allah, His Messenger, Messenger's relatives, and to the orphans, the needy and the travellers in need; so that it may not become the property of the rich among you. Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it and from whatever he forbids you, refrain from it. Fear Allah; for Allah is stern in retribution.[7]
QXPWhatever Allah has turned over to His Messenger from those communities belongs to Allah and His Messenger (the Central Authority). (The Messenger will spend it on): The Central Government (The Central Authority). The welfare of the families of the believers. The orphans. Those who still feel left alone in the society. The widows. Those who have no means of earning their livelihood. The disabled who cannot move around looking for the Bounty of Allah. The homeless son of the street. Those who are on their way to join you, and Those who travel a distance to seek help.
Maulana AliWhatever Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns, it is for Allah and for the Messenger, and for the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, so that it be not taken by turns by the rich among you. As regards the term ibn as-sabil ("wayfarer"), see the third note on 2:177.] so that it may not be [a benefit] going round and round among such of you as may [already] be rich. Hence, accept [willingly] whatever the Apostle gives you [thereof], and refrain from [demanding] anything that he withholds from you; and remain conscious of God: for, verily, God is severe in retribution. [Respectively, in later times, the head of an Islamic state, who has to decide - in the light of the exigencies - how the share of "God and His Apostle" is to be utilized for the common weal.]



al-Hashr 059:008

59:8 للفقراء المهاجرين الذين اخرجوا من ديارهم واموالهم يبتغون فضلا من الله ورضوانا وينصرون الله ورسوله اولئك هم الصادقون


TransliterationLilfuqara-i almuhajireena allatheena okhrijoo min diyarihim waamwalihim yabtaghoona fadlan mina Allahi waridwanan wayansuroona Allaha warasoolahu ola-ika humu alssadiqoona
LiteralTo the poorest of poor/poor oppressed the emigrants those who were brought out/driven out from their houses/homes and their properties/possessions , they wish/desire grace/favour from God, and an acceptance/approval , and they give victory/aid (to) God and His messenger, those, they are the truthful.

Yusuf Ali(Some part is due) to the indigent Muhajirs, those who were expelled from their homes and their property, while seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure, and aiding Allah and His Messenger: such are indeed the sincere ones:-
PickthalAnd (it is) for the poor fugitives who have been driven out from their homes and their belongings, who seek bounty from Allah and help Allah and His messenger. They are the loyal.

SarwarIt is He who drove the disbelievers among the followers of the Bible out of their homes (in the Arabian Peninsula) as the first time exiles. You did not think that they would leave their homes and they thought that their fortresses would save them from God. The decree of God came upon them in a way that even they did not expect. He caused such terror to enter their hearts that they started to destroy their own homes by their own hands and by those of the believers. People of vision, learn from this a lesson.
Khalifa(You shall give) to the needy who immigrated. They were evicted from their homes and deprived of their properties, because they sought GOD's grace and pleasure, and because they supported GOD and His messenger. They are the truthful.
Hilali/Khan(And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allah and to please Him. And helping Allah (i.e. helping His religion) and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW). Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say);-
H/K/SaheehFor the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.
MalikA share of the spoils shall be given to the indigent immigrants who were driven out of their homes and their possessions, and are seeking Allah’s grace and His good pleasure and who want to help Allah and His Messenger: such are indeed the true believers.[8]
QXPAnd it is for the poor refugees who have been expelled from their homelands and their property. And they seek Allah's Bounty and Approval, and support Allah and His Messenger. It is they, they who are true to their faith.
Maulana Ali(It is) for the poor who fled, who were driven from their homes and their possessions, seeking grace of Allah and (His) pleasure, and helping Allah and His Messenger. These it is that are the truthful.
Free MindsFor the immigrants who are poor and were driven out of their homes and deprived of their properties, they sought God's grace and pleasure, and they supported God and His messenger. They are the truthful ones.
Qaribullah (A share of the spoils shall also be given) to the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their possessions, who seek the Favor and Pleasure of Allah, and help Allah and His Messenger. These are they that are truthful.

George SaleA part also belongeth to the poor Mohajerin, who have been dispossessed of their houses and their substance, seeking favour from God, and his good will, and assisting God and his Apostle. These are the men of veracity.
JM RodwellTo the poor refugees (Mohadjerin) also doth a part belong, who have been driven from their homes and their substance, and who seek favour from God and his goodwill, and aid God and his apostle. These are the men of genuine virtue.

Asad[Thus, part of such war-gains shall be given] to the poor among those who have forsaken the domain of evil: [For this rendering of the term muhajirun ("emigrants"), see note on 2:218.] those who have been driven from their homelands and their possessions, seeking favour with God and [His] goodly acceptance, and who aid [the cause of] God and His Apostle: it is they, they who are true to their word!



al-Hashr 059:009

59:9 والذين تبوؤوا الدار والايمان من قبلهم يحبون من هاجر اليهم ولايجدون في صدورهم حاجة مما اوتوا ويؤثرون على انفسهم ولو كان بهم خصاصة ومن يوق شح نفسه فاولئك هم المفلحون


TransliterationWaallatheena tabawwaoo alddara waal-eemana min qablihim yuhibboona man hajara ilayhim wala yajidoona fee sudoorihim hajatan mimma ootoo wayu/thiroona AAala anfusihim walaw kana bihim khasasatun waman yooqa shuhha nafsihi faola-ika humu almuflihoona
LiteralAnd those who resided/settled the house/home and the faith/belief from before them, they love/like who emigrated to them, and they do not find in their chests (innermosts) a need/necessity from what they were given/brought, and they prefer/choose (the immigrants) over themselves and even if (it) was neediness/poverty with them, and who is protected (from) his self', so those are the successful/winners.

Yusuf AliBut those who before them, had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith,- show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves, even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls,- they are the ones that achieve prosperity.
PickthalThose who entered the city and the faith before them love those who flee unto them for refuge, and find in their breasts no need for that which hath been given them, but prefer (the fugitives) above themselves though poverty become their lot. And whoso is saved from his own avarice - such are they who are successful.
Arberry And those who made their dwelling in the abode, and in belief, before them; love whosoever has emigrated to them, not finding in their breasts any need for what they have been given, and preferring others above themselves, even though poverty be their portion. And whoso is guarded against the avarice of his own soul, those -- they are the prosperers.
ShakirAnd those who made their abode in the city and in the faith before them love those who have fled to them, and do not find in their hearts a need of what they are given, and prefer (them) before themselves though poverty may afflict them, and whoever is preserved from the niggardliness of his soul, these it is that are the successful ones.
SarwarWhatever God grants to His Messenger (out of the property) of the people of the towns, belongs to God, the Messenger, the kinsfolk, the orphans, the destitute and to those who may become needy while on a journey, so that it will not circulate only in the hands of rich ones among them. Take only what the Messenger gives to you and desist from what he forbids you. Have fear of God; God is severe in His retribution.
KhalifaAs for those who provided them with a home and a refuge, and were believers before them, they love those who immigrated to them, and find no hesitation in their hearts in helping them. In fact, they readily give them priority over themselves, even when they themselves need what they give away. Indeed, those who overcome their natural stinginess are the successful ones.
Hilali/KhanAnd those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given (from the booty of Banee An-Nadeer), and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves, even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful.
H/K/SaheehAnd [also for] those who were settled in al-Madinah and [adopted] the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul it is those who will be the successful.
MalikA share of the spoils shall also be given to those who made their abode in Medina (the Ansar) and believed even before the arrivals of the immigrants and love those who migrated to them and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to them, and prefer those immigrants over themselves, even though they themselves are poor. In fact those who are saved from the greediness of hearts, are the ones who will achieve true success.[9]
QXPAlso those who resided in the city (Madinah) before them and attained faith. They love those who immigrated to them, and find no hesitation in their hearts in helping them. But rather give them preference over themselves, even though poverty be their own lot. And whoever is saved from greediness of the heart, such are the ones who truly prosper.
Maulana AliAnd those who made their abode in the City and in faith before them love those who have fled to them, and find in their hearts no need of what they are given, and prefer (them) before themselves, though poverty may afflict them. And whoever is saved from the niggardliness of his soul, these it is that are the successful.

Qaribullah And those before them who had made their dwelling in the abode (the City of Madinah), and because of their belief love those who have emigrated to them; they do not find any (envy) in their chests for what they have been given and prefer them above themselves, even though they themselves have a need. Whosoever is saved from the greed of his own soul, they are the ones who win.

In a wider sense, the above refers also to all true believers, at all times, who live in freedom and security within the realm of Islam, and are prepared to receive with open arms anyone who is compelled to leave his homeland in order to be able to live in accordance with the dictates of his faith.] for, such as from their own covetousness are saved - it is they, they that shall attain to a happy state! [Thus, greed, niggardliness and covetousness are pointed out here as the main obstacles to man's attaining to a happy state in this world and in the hereafter (cf. surah 102).



al-Hashr 059:010

59:10 والذين جاؤوا من بعدهم يقولون ربنا اغفر لنا ولاخواننا الذين سبقونا بالايمان ولاتجعل في قلوبنا غلا للذين امنوا ربنا انك رؤوف رحيم


TransliterationWaallatheena jaoo min baAAdihim yaqooloona rabbana ighfir lana wali-ikhwanina allatheena sabaqoona bial-eemani wala tajAAal fee quloobina ghillan lillatheena amanoo rabbana innaka raoofun raheemun
LiteralAnd those who came from after them, they say: "Our Lord forgive for us, and to our brothers, those who preceded us with (to) the faith/belief, and do not make/put in our hearts/minds hatred/animosity to those who believed, our Lord, that you are merciful/compassionate, merciful."

Yusuf AliAnd those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancour (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful."
PickthalAnd those who came (into the faith) after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who were before us in the faith, and place not in our hearts any rancour toward those who believe. Our Lord! Thou art Full of Pity, Merciful.
Arberry And as for those who came after them, they say, 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers, who preceded us in belief, and put Thou not into our hearts any rancour towards those who believe. Our Lord, surely Thou art the All-gentle, the All-compassionate.'
ShakirAnd those who come after them say: Our Lord! forgive us and those of our brethren who had precedence of us in faith, and do not allow any spite to remain in our hearts towards those who believe, our Lord! surely Thou art Kind, Merciful.
SarwarThose who migrated later (to Medina) say, "Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in the faith, and clear our hearts of any ill will against the believers. Lord, You are Compassionate and All-merciful".
KhalifaThose who became believers after them say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who preceded us to the faith, and keep our hearts from harboring any hatred towards those who believed. Our Lord, You are Compassionate, Most Merciful."
Hilali/KhanAnd those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.
H/K/SaheehAnd [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful."
MalikAnd it is also for those who came after them and say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers who embraced the faith before us and do not leave any malice in our hearts towards the believers. Our Lord! Surely You are the Kind, the Merciful."[10]
QXPAnd those who come after the first immigrants, say, "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who came into Faith before us, and let not be any malice in our hearts toward those who believe. Our Lord! Verily, You are Compassionate, Merciful."
Maulana AliAnd those who come after them say: Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who had precedence of us in faith, and leave no spite in our hearts towards those who believe. Our Lord surely Thou art Kind, Merciful.
Free MindsAnd those who came after them saying: "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us to the faith, and do not place in our hearts any animosity towards those who believed. Our Lord, You are Compassionate, Merciful."
Qaribullah Those who came after them say: 'Forgive us our Lord, and forgive our brothers who were believers before us. Do not put in our hearts any spite towards those who believe. Lord, You are the Gentle, the Most Merciful. '

George SaleAnd they who have come after them say, O Lord, forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in the faith, and put not into our hearts ill-will against those who have believed: O Lord, verily thou art compassionate and merciful.
JM RodwellAnd they who have come after them into the faith say, "O our Lord! forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in the faith, and put not into our hearts ill-will against those who believe. O our Lord! thou verily art Kind, Merciful."

AsadAnd so, they who come after them pray: [I.e., all who attain to a belief in the Quran and its Prophet (Razi).] "O our Sustainer! Forgive us our sins, as well as those of our brethren who preceded us in faith, and let not our hearts entertain any unworthy thoughts or feelings against [any of] those who have attained to faith. O our Sustainer! Verily, Thou art compassionate, a dispenser of grace!"



al-Hashr 059:011

59:11 الم تر الى الذين نافقوا يقولون لاخوانهم الذين كفروا من اهل الكتاب لئن اخرجتم لنخرجن معكم ولانطيع فيكم احدا ابدا وان قوتلتم لننصرنكم والله يشهد انهم لكاذبون


TransliterationAlam tara ila allatheena nafaqoo yaqooloona li-ikhwanihimu allatheena kafaroo min ahli alkitabi la-in okhrijtum lanakhrujanna maAAakum wala nuteeAAu feekum ahadan abadan wa-in qootiltum lanansurannakum waAllahu yashhadu innahum lakathiboona
LiteralDid you not see to those who exercised hypocrisy, they say to their brothers those who disbelieved from The Books' people: "If (E) you were brought out, we will go out (E) with you. And we do not obey anyone in (from) you ever (E), and if you were fought/killed, We will give you victory/aid (E)." And God witnesses/testifies that they truly are liars/deniers/falsifiers (E).

Yusuf AliHast thou not observed the Hypocrites say to their misbelieving brethren among the People of the Book? - "If ye are expelled, we too will go out with you, and we will never hearken to any one in your affair; and if ye are attacked (in fight) we will help you". But Allah is witness that they are indeed liars.
PickthalHast thou not observed those who are hypocrites, (how) they tell their brethren who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture: If ye are driven out, we surely will go out with you, and we will never obey anyone against you, and if ye are attacked we verily will help you. And Allah beareth witness that they verily are liars.
Arberry Hast thou not regarded the hypocrites, saying to their brothers of the People of the Book who disbelieve, 'If you are expelled, we will go forth with you, and we will never obey anyone in regard to you. If you are fought against, we will help you.' And God bears witness that they are truly liars.
ShakirHave you not seen those who have become hypocrites? They say to those of their brethren who disbelieve from among the followers of the Book: If you are driven forth, we shall certainly go forth with you, and we will never obey any one concerning you, and if you are fought against, we will certainly help you, and Allah bears witness that they are most surely liars.
SarwarHave you not seen the hypocrites who say to their disbelieving brothers among the People of the Book, "If you are driven out, we shall, also, leave the town with you and we shall never obey whoever seeks to harm you. If you are attacked, we shall help you." God testifies that they are liars.
KhalifaHave you noted those who are plagued with hypocrisy, and how they said to their companions in disbelief among the people of the scripture, "If you are evicted we will go out with you, and will never obey anyone who opposes you. If anyone fights you, we will fight on your side." GOD bears witness that they are liars.
Hilali/KhanHave you (O Muhammad SAW) not observed the hypocrites who say to their friends among the people of the Scripture who disbelieve: "(By Allah) If you are expelled, we (too) indeed will go out with you, and we shall never obey any one against you, and if you are attacked (in fight), we shall indeed help you." But Allah is Witness, that they verily, are liars.
H/K/SaheehHave you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who have disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will not obey, in regard to you, anyone ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you." But Allah testifies that they are liars.
MalikHave you not observed the hypocrites? They say to their fellow unbelievers among the people of the Book: "If they drive you out, we will go with you. We will never obey anyone who seeks to harm you. If you are attacked we will certainly help you." Allah bears witness that they are lying.[11]
QXPHave you not noted the hypocrites how they told their disbelieving brethren among the People of the Scripture, "If you are driven out, we certainly will go forth with you, and shall never heed anyone against you. And if you are attacked, certainly shall we help you." But Allah bears witness that they surely are liars.
Maulana AliHast thou not seen the hypocrites? They say to their brethren who disbelieve from among the People of the book: If you are expelled, we certainly will go forth with you, and we will never obey any one concerning you; and if you are fought against, we will certainly help you. And Allah bears witness that they surely are liars.

They say unto their brethren who believe not, of those who have received the scriptures, verily if ye be expelled your habitations, we will surely go forth with you; and we will not pay obedience, in your respect, unto any one for ever: And if ye be attacked, we will certainly assist you. But God is witness that they are liars.

AsadART THOU NOT aware of how those who would always dissemble [their real feelings] [I.e., the hypocrites of Medina (see introductory note as well as next note).] speak to their truth-denying brethren from among the followers of earlier revelation: [The Banu n-Nadir. From the construction of the next verse it appears that the whole of this passage (verses 11-14) was revealed before the actual advance of the Muslims against the Nadir strongholds: verses 12 -14 might be of a prophetic nature, predicting what was yet to happen (Zamakhshari). Alternatively, the passage may be understood in a wider, timeless sense, applying to the falsity and futility inherent in all "alliances" between, on the one hand, people who openly deny the truth and, on the other, half-hearted waverers who have neither the will to commit themselves to a spiritual proposition nor the moral courage to declare openly their lack of belief.] "If you are driven away, we shall most certainly go forth with you, and shall never pay heed to anyone against you; and if war is waged against you, we shall most certainly come to your succour." But God bears witness that they are most flagrantly lying:



al-Hashr 059:012

59:12 لئن اخرجوا لايخرجون معهم ولئن قوتلوا لاينصرونهم ولئن نصروهم ليولن الادبار ثم لاينصرون


TransliterationLa-in okhrijoo la yakhrujoona maAAahum wala-in qootiloo la yansuroonahum wala-in nasaroohum layuwallunna al-adbara thumma la yunsaroona
LiteralIf (E) they were brought/driven out, they do not get out with them, and if (E) they were fought/killed, they do not give them victory/aid, and if (E) they gave them victory/aid, they will turn away (E) (on) the backs/ends, then, they do not be given victory/aid.

Yusuf AliIf they are expelled, never will they go out with them; and if they are attacked (in fight), they will never help them; and if they do help them, they will turn their backs; so they will receive no help.

59:13 لانتم اشد رهبة في صدورهم من الله ذلك بانهم قوم لايفقهون

LiteralYou are (E) stronger terror/fright in their chests (innermosts) than God, that (is) with that they (are) a nation not understanding/knowing .

Yusuf AliOf a truth ye are stronger (than they) because of the terror in their hearts, (sent) by Allah. This is because they are men devoid of understanding.
PickthalYe are more awful as a fear in their bosoms than Allah. That is because they are a folk who understand not.
Arberry Why, you arouse greater fear in their hearts than God; that is because they are a people who understand not.

MalikIn their hearts there is greater dread of you than of Allah, because they are a people devoid of understanding.[13]
QXPNay, you believers arouse a fear in their hearts more intense than even the fear of Allah. This is because they are a people who do not understand (that all strength comes from following Divine Laws).
Maulana AliYour fear in their hearts is indeed greater than Allah’s. That is because they are a people who understand not.

59:14 لايقاتلونكم جميعا الا في قرى محصنة او من وراء جدر باسهم بينهم شديد تحسبهم جميعا وقلوبهم شتى ذلك بانهم قوم لايعقلون


TransliterationLa yuqatiloonakum jameeAAan illa fee quran muhassanatin aw min wara-i judurin ba/suhum baynahum shadeedun tahsabuhum jameeAAan waquloobuhum shatta thalika bi-annahum qawmun la yaAAqiloona
LiteralThey do not fight/kill you all/all together, except in fortified/protected villages/urban cities, or from behind walls, their courage/power between them (is) strong (severe), you think/suppose them (to be) all/all together, and their hearts/minds (are) separate/different , that (is) with that they are a nation not reasoning/comprehending .

Yusuf AliThey will not fight you (even) together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Strong is their fighting (spirit) amongst themselves: thou wouldst think they were united, but their hearts are divided: that is because they are a people devoid of wisdom.

[Sc., "with a view to achieving what is good for them": implying that people who have no real faith and no definite moral convictions can never attain to true unity among themselves, but are always impelled to commit acts of aggression against one another.]



al-Hashr 059:015

59:15 كمثل الذين من قبلهم قريبا ذاقوا وبال امرهم ولهم عذاب اليم


TransliterationKamathali allatheena min qablihim qareeban thaqoo wabala amrihim walahum AAathabun aleemun
LiteralAs/like (the) example/proverb, (of) those from before them near/close (shortly), they tasted/experienced their matters'/affair's severity/bad consequences , and for them (is) a painful torture.

Yusuf AliLike those who lately preceded them, they have tasted the evil result of their conduct; and (in the Hereafter there is) for them a grievous Penalty;-
PickthalOn the likeness of those (who suffered) a short time before them, they taste the ill-effects of their own conduct, and theirs is painful punishment.
Arberry Like those who a short time before them tasted the mischief of their action; there awaits them a painful chastisement.
ShakirLike those before them shortly; they tasted the evil result of their affair, and they shall have a painful punishment.

MalikTheir example is like those who have tasted, a short while before them, the evil consequences of their deeds. They shall have a painful punishment.[15]
QXPTheir example is the same as of those who lately preceded them. They tasted the calamity for their (wrong) decisions, and theirs is the awful doom.

Asad[To both kinds of your enemies, O believers, is bound to happen] [This interpolation - relating as it does to both the outright deniers of the truth and the hypocrites - is justified by the occurrence of the dual form in verse 17.] the like of [what happened to] those who, a short while before them, had to taste the evil that came from their own doings, with [yet more] grievous suffering awaiting them [in the life to come]: [In the first instance, this is apparently an allusion to the fate of the pagan Quraysh at the battle of Badr (Zamakhshari) or, according to some authorities (quoted by Tabari), to the treachery and subsequent expulsion from Medina, in the month of Shawwal, 2 H., of the Jewish tribe of Banu Qaynuqa. But in a wider perspective - strongly suggested by the next two verses - the meaning is general and not restricteed to any particular time or historical occurrence.



al-Hashr 059:016

59:16 كمثل الشيطان اذ قال للانسان اكفر فلما كفر قال اني برئ منك اني اخاف الله رب العالمين


TransliterationKamathali alshshaytani ith qala lil-insani okfur falamma kafara qala innee baree-on minka innee akhafu Allaha rabba alAAalameena
LiteralAs/like (the) example/proverb (of) the devil, when he said to the human/mankind: "Disbelieve." So when he (the human) disbelieved, he said: "I am innocent/renouncing from you, that I, I fear God, the creations all together's/(universes') Lord."

Yusuf Ali(Their allies deceived them), like the Evil One, when he says to man, "Deny Allah": but when (man) denies Allah, (the Evil One) says, "I am free of thee: I do fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!"
Pickthal(And the hypocrites are) on the likeness of the devil when he telleth man to disbelieve, then, when he disbelieveth saith: Lo! I am quit of thee. Lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

Hilali/Khan(Their allies deceived them) like Shaitan (Satan), when he says to man: "Disbelieve in Allah." But when (man) disbelieves in Allah, Shaitan (Satan) says: "I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!"
H/K/Saheeh[The hypocrites are] like the example of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds."
MalikTheir parable is like the Satan who says to man disbelieve, but when man becomes a disbeliever, he says: "I have nothing to do with you; I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds."[16]
QXPThey (the hypocrites) are like Satan. He says unto man, "Deny the Truth!" But as soon as man has denied the Truth, it says, "Behold, I am not responsible for you. Verily, I fear Allah, Lord of the Worlds."

al-Hashr 059:017

59:17 فكان عاقبتهما انهما في النار خالدين فيها وذلك جزاء الظالمين


TransliterationFakana AAaqibatahuma annahuma fee alnnari khalidayni feeha wathalika jazao alththalimeena
LiteralSo their (B)'s end (result) was that they (B) (are) in the fire immortally/eternally in it, and that (is) the unjust's/oppressive's reimbursement.

Yusuf AliThe end of both will be that they will go into the Fire, dwelling therein for ever. Such is the reward of the wrong-doers.
PickthalAnd the consequence for both will be that they are in the Fire, therein abiding. Such is the reward of evil-doers.
Arberry Their end is, both are in the Fire, there dwelling forever; that is the recompense of the evildoers.

H/K/SaheehSo the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the wrong-doers.
MalikThe end of both will be that they will be tossed in hell and remain there forever. Thus shall be the reward of the wrongdoers.[17]
QXPThus, the end for both is in the Fire, therein to abide. Such is the reward of those who relegate the Truth. ('Both' = Selfish desire + The human personality).
Maulana AliSo the end of both of them is that they are both in the Fire to abide therein. And that is the reward of the wrongdoers.
Free MindsSo the destiny for both of them is the Fire, abiding therein. And such is the recompense for the wicked.
Qaribullah Their end shall be that they live for ever in the Fire. That is the recompense of the harmdoers.

al-Hashr 059:018

59:18 ياايها الذين امنوا اتقوا الله ولتنظر نفس ماقدمت لغد واتقوا الله ان الله خبير بما تعملون


TransliterationYa ayyuha allatheena amanoo ittaqoo Allaha waltanthur nafsun ma qaddamat lighadin waittaqoo Allaha inna Allaha khabeerun bima taAAmaloona
LiteralYou, you those who believed, fear and obey God, and a self should watch/consider what it advanced/presented for tomorrow/(the) future, and fear and obey God, that truly God (is) expert/experienced, with what you make/do .

Yusuf AliO ye who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what (provision) He has sent forth for the morrow. Yea, fear Allah: for Allah is well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.
PickthalO ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah. And let every soul look to that which it sendeth on before for the morrow. And observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.
Arberry O believers, fear God. Let every soul consider what it has forwarded for the morrow. And fear God; God is aware of the things you do.
ShakirO you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent on for the morrow, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.
SarwarBelievers, have fear of God. A soul must see what it has done for the future. Have fear of God for He is All-aware of what you do.
KhalifaO you who believe, you shall reverence GOD, and let every soul examine what it has sent ahead for tomorrow. You shall reverence GOD; GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do.
Hilali/KhanO you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do .
H/K/SaheehO you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
MalikO believers! Fear Allah and let every soul see what it is sending for the morrow (Hereafter). Fear Allah, surely Allah is aware of all your actions.[18]
QXPO You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Be mindful of Allah and watch everyday what you have invested for your 'Self' for tomorrow. Again, remain conscious of the Laws of Allah (today and every day). Behold, Allah is fully Aware of all your actions.
Maulana AliO you who believe, keep your duty to Allah, and let every soul consider that which it sends forth for the morrow, and keep your duty to Allah. Surely Allah is Aware of what you do.
Free MindsO you who believe, be aware of God, and let every soul examine what it has put forth for tomorrow. And be aware of God; God is fully aware of everything you do.
Qaribullah Believers, fear Allah. Let every soul look to what it has forwarded for the future, and fear Allah, for Allah is Aware of the things you do.

59:19 ولاتكونوا كالذين نسوا الله فانساهم انفسهم اولئك هم الفاسقون


TransliterationWala takoonoo kaallatheena nasoo Allaha faansahum anfusahum ola-ika humu alfasiqoona
LiteralAnd do not be as/like those who forgot God, so He made them forget themselves, those, they are the debauchers .

Yusuf AliAnd be ye not like those who forgot Allah; and He made them forget their own souls! Such are the rebellious transgressors!
PickthalAnd be not ye as those who forgot Allah, therefor He caused them to forget their souls. Such are the evil-doers.
Arberry Be not as those who forgot God, and so He caused them to forget their souls; those -- they are the ungodly.
ShakirAnd be not like those who forsook Allah, so He made them forsake their own souls: these it is that are the transgressors.
SarwarDo not be like those who forget about God. He will make them forget themselves. These are the sinful people.
KhalifaDo not be like those who forgot GOD, so He made them forget themselves. These are the wicked.
Hilali/KhanAnd be not like those who forgot Allah (i.e. became disobedient to Allah) and He caused them to forget their ownselves, (let them to forget to do righteous deeds). Those are the Fasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
H/K/SaheehAnd be not like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.
MalikBe not like those who forgot Allah, as a result Allah caused them to forget themselves, it is they who are the transgressors.[19]
QXPAnd be not like those who forgot Allah, therefore, He (His Law) made them forget themselves. It is they, they who have drifted away (from the road to Success).
Maulana AliAnd be not like those who forget Allah, so He makes them forget their own souls. These are the transgressors.

al-Hashr 059:020

59:20 لايستوي اصحاب النار واصحاب الجنة اصحاب الجنة هم الفائزون


TransliterationLa yastawee as-habu alnnari waas-habu aljannati as-habu aljannati humu alfa-izoona
LiteralThe fire's owners/company/friends and the treed garden's/paradise's owners/company/friends, do not become equal/alike, the treed garden's/paradise's owners/company/friends, they are the successful/triumphant .

Yusuf AliNot equal are the Companions of the Fire and the Companions of the Garden: it is the Companions of the Garden, that will achieve Felicity.
PickthalNot equal are the owners of the Fire and the owners of the Garden. The owners of the Garden, they are the victorious.
Arberry Not equal are the inhabitants of the Fire and the inhabitants of Paradise. The inhabitants of Paradise -- they are the triumphant.
ShakirNot alike are the inmates of the fire and the dwellers of the garden: the dwellers of the garden are they that are the achievers.

MalikThe companions of hell and the companions of paradise are not equals, of course the companions of paradise are far superior.[20]
QXPNot equal are the dwellers of the Fire and the dwellers of the Garden. Dwellers of the Garden - it is they, they who are crowned with honor.
Maulana AliNot alike are the companions of the Fire and the owners of the Garden. The owners of the Garden are the achievers.

al-Hashr 059:021

59:21 لو انزلنا هذا القران على جبل لرايته خاشعا متصدعا من خشية الله وتلك الامثال نضربها للناس لعلهم يتفكرون


TransliterationLaw anzalna hatha alqur-ana AAala jabalin laraaytahu khashiAAan mutasaddiAAan min khashyati Allahi watilka al-amthalu nadribuha lilnnasi laAAallahum yatafakkaroona
LiteralIf We descended this the Koran on (a) mountain you would have seen/understood it humble/submissive splitting/cracking from God's fear, and those are the examples/proverbs We give it for the people, maybe/perhaps they think.

Yusuf AliHad We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, verily, thou wouldst have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes which We propound to men, that they may reflect.
PickthalIf We had caused this Qur'an to descend upon a mountain, thou (O Muhammad) verily hadst seen it humbled, rent asunder by the fear of Allah. Such similitudes coin We for mankind that haply they may reflect.

LiteralHe is God, He whom (there is) no God except Him, knower (of) the unseen/invisible/ supernatural and the testimony/presence , He is the merciful, the most merciful .412

al-Hashr 059:023

59:23 هو الله الذي لااله الا هو الملك القدوس السلام المؤمن المهيمن العزيز الجبار المتكبر سبحان الله عما يشركون


TransliterationHuwa Allahu allathee la ilaha illa huwa almaliku alquddoosu alssalamu almu/minu almuhayminu alAAazeezu aljabbaru almutakabbiru subhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoona
LiteralHe is God, which (there is) no God except Him, the king/owner/possessor , the holy/sanctimonious/ glorified , the safety/security/peace , the confirmer/believer , the guardian/protector , the glorious/mighty , the almighty/tremendous , the greatened/proud/arrogant , God's praise/glory from what they share/make partners (with Him).

Yusuf AliAllah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace (and Perfection), the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! (High is He) above the partners they attribute to Him.

MalikAllah is He, besides Whom there is no god, the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, the Guardian, the Almighty, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory be to Allah! He is far above the shirk they commit (by associating other gods with Him).[23]
QXPHe is Allah, other than Whom there is no god ('no deity, no Law-giver and no one worthy of worship or obedience). The King Supreme, the Impeccable, the Peace and the Source of all peace, the Guardian of Faith and Security, the Watcher of the Universe, the Majestic, the All Powerful, the Superb. Glorious is Allah, far Above what they ascribe unto Him.
Maulana AliHe is Allah, besides Whom there is no God; the King, the Holy, the Author of Peace, the Granter of Security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of greatness. Glory be to Allah from that which they set up (with Him)!

al-Hashr 059:024

59:24 هو الله الخالق البارئ المصور له الاسماء الحسنى يسبح له مافي السماوات والارض وهو العزيز الحكيم


TransliterationHuwa Allahu alkhaliqu albari-o almusawwiru lahu al-asmao alhusna yusabbihu lahu ma fee alssamawati waal-ardi wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu
LiteralHe is God, the creator , the creator , the shaper/former/image maker , for Him (are) the names the good/most beautiful , what (is) in the skies/space and the earth/Planet Earth, praise/glorify to Him, and He is the glorious/mighty , the wise/judicious.413

Yusuf AliHe is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

All things in the heavens and the earth constantly work to manifest His Glory and to fulfill His Plan. And He is Almighty, the Wise. (He runs the Universe in His Infinite Power with His Infinite Wisdom).
