al-`Adiyat 100:001

‏100:1 سورة العاديات بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والعاديات ضبحا

Transliteration	WaalAAadiyati dabhan
Literal	And/by the panting/changing colour , attacking forces/horses.

Yusuf Ali	By the (Steeds) that run, with panting (breath),
Pickthal	By the snorting courses,
Arberry	By the snorting chargers,
Shakir	I swear by the runners breathing pantingly,
Sarwar	(I swear) by the snorting chargers (of the warriors), whose hoofs strike against the rocks
Khalifa	By the fast gallopers.
Hilali/Khan	By the (steeds) that run, with panting (breath),
H/K/Saheeh	By the racers, panting,
Malik	By the snorting war horses,[1]
QXP	Oh, the panting galloping horses of the raiders.
Maulana Ali	By those running and uttering cries!
Free Minds	By the fast gallopers.
Qaribullah	By the snorting runners (the horses),

George Sale	By the war-horses which run swiftly to the battle, with a panting noise;
JM Rodwell	By the snorting CHARGERS!

Asad	Oh, 1 the chargers that run panting,

al-`Adiyat 100:002

‏100:2 فالموريات قدحا

Transliteration	Faalmooriyati qadhan
Literal	So the igniters (of fire)/swayers , fire striking/sparking/decaying .

Yusuf Ali	And strike sparks of fire,
Pickthal	Striking sparks of fire
Arberry	by the strikers of fire,
Shakir	Then those that produce fire striking,
Sarwar	and produce sparks
Khalifa	Igniting sparks.
Hilali/Khan	Striking sparks of fire (by their hooves),
H/K/Saheeh	And the producers of sparks [when] striking
Malik	dashing off sparks by the strike of their hoofs,[2]
QXP	Sparks of fire striking (with their gallops).
Maulana Ali	And those producing fire, striking!
Free Minds	Striking sparks.
Qaribullah	by the strikers of fire,

George Sale	and by those which strike fire, by dashing their hoofs against the stones;
JM Rodwell	And those that dash off sparks of fire!

Asad	sparks of fire striking,

al-`Adiyat 100:003

‏100:3 فالمغيرات صبحا

Transliteration	Faalmugheerati subhan
Literal	So the raiders/fast attacking horses (in) mornings/daybreaks.

Yusuf Ali	And push home the charge in the morning,
Pickthal	And scouring to the raid at dawn,
Arberry	by the dawn-raiders
Shakir	Then those that make raids at morn,
Sarwar	while running during a raid at dawn,
Khalifa	Invading (the enemy) by morning.
Hilali/Khan	And scouring to the raid at dawn
H/K/Saheeh	And the chargers at dawn,
Malik	making raids in the morning,[3]
QXP	Charging, ambushing at dawn.
Maulana Ali	And those suddenly attacking at morn!
Free Minds	Charging in the morning.
Qaribullah	by the dawnraiders,

George Sale	and by those which make a sudden incursion on the enemy early in the morning,
JM Rodwell	And those that scour to the attack at morn!

Asad	rushing to assault at morn,

al-`Adiyat 100:004

‏100:4 فاثرن به نقعا

Transliteration	Faatharna bihi naqAAan
Literal	So they stirred and arose/agitated dust/splashing mud or water with it .

Yusuf Ali	And raise the dust in clouds the while,
Pickthal	Then, therewith, with their trail of dust,
Arberry	blazing a trail of dust,
Shakir	Then thereby raise dust,
Sarwar	and leave behind a cloud of dust
Khalifa	Striking terror therein.
Hilali/Khan	And raise the dust in clouds the while,
H/K/Saheeh	Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,
Malik	and leaving a trail of dust[4]
QXP	Therewith raising clouds of dust.
Maulana Ali	Then thereby they raise dust,
Free Minds	Forming clouds of dust.
Qaribullah	raising a trail of dust,

George Sale	and therein raise the dust,
JM Rodwell	And stir therein the dust aloft;

Asad	thereby raising clouds of dust,

al-`Adiyat 100:005

‏100:5 فوسطن به جمعا

Transliteration	Fawasatna bihi jamAAan
Literal	So they were in the middle with it all together/(in) a group .

Yusuf Ali	And penetrate forthwith into the midst (of the foe) en masse;-
Pickthal	Cleaving, as one, the centre (of the foe),
Arberry	cleaving there with a host!
Shakir	Then rush thereby upon an assembly:
Sarwar	which engulfs the enemy.
Khalifa	Penetrating to the heart of their territory.
Hilali/Khan	Penetrating forthwith as one into the midst (of the foe);
H/K/Saheeh	Arriving thereby in the center collectively,
Malik	as they dash into the middle of the enemy troops![5]
QXP	Storming into any community.
Maulana Ali	Then penetrate thereby gatherings --
Free Minds	Penetrating to the midst together.
Qaribullah	dividing the gathering.

George Sale	and therein pass through the midst of the adverse troops:
JM Rodwell	And cleave therein their midway through a host!

Asad	thereby storming [blindly] into any host!

al-`Adiyat 100:006

‏100:6 ان الانسان لربه لكنود

Transliteration	Inna al-insana lirabbihi lakanoodun
Literal	That truly the human/mankind (is) ungrateful/disobedient (E) to his Lord.

Yusuf Ali	Truly man is, to his Lord, ungrateful;
Pickthal	Lo! man is an ingrate unto his Lord
Arberry	Surely Man is ungrateful to his Lord,
Shakir	Most surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.
Sarwar	The human being is certainly ungrateful to his Lord.
Khalifa	The human being is unappreciative of his Lord.
Hilali/Khan	Verily! Man (disbeliever) is ungrateful to his Lord;
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.
Malik	Surely man is ungrateful to his Lord;[6]
QXP	Behold, man is so ungrateful to his Lord! (Robbing the fruit of others' labor).
Maulana Ali	Surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.
Free Minds	Surely, the human being is ungrateful to his Lord.
Qaribullah	Indeed, the human is ungrateful to his Lord.

George Sale	Verily man is ungrateful unto his Lord;
JM Rodwell	Truly, Man is to his Lord ungrateful.

Asad	VERILY, towards his Sustainer man is most ungrateful

al-`Adiyat 100:007

‏100:7 وانه على ذلك لشهيد

Transliteration	Wa-innahu AAala thalika lashaheedun
Literal	And he truly (is) on that witnessing/testifying (E).

Yusuf Ali	And to that (fact) he bears witness (by his deeds);
Pickthal	And lo! he is a witness unto that;
Arberry	and surely he is a witness against that!
Shakir	And most surely he is a witness of that.
Sarwar	He himself knows this very well.
Khalifa	He bears witness to this fact.
Hilali/Khan	And to that fact he bears witness (by his deeds);
H/K/Saheeh	And indeed, he is to that a witness.
Malik	and surely he himself bears witness to it,[7]
QXP	And behold, he is a witness unto that.
Maulana Ali	And surely he is a witness of that.
Free Minds	He will indeed bear witness to this.
Qaribullah	To this he himself shall bear witness.

George Sale	and he is witness thereof:
JM Rodwell	And of this he is himself a witness;

Asad	and to this, behold, he [himself] bears witness indeed:

al-`Adiyat 100:008

‏100:8 وانه لحب الخير لشديد

Transliteration	Wa-innahu lihubbi alkhayri lashadeedun
Literal	And that he truly to the good's/wealth's love/like (is) strong (intense) (E) (humans love excessive goodness).

Yusuf Ali	And violent is he in his love of wealth.
Pickthal	And lo! in the love of wealth he is violent.
Arberry	Surely he is passionate in his love for good things.
Shakir	And most surely he is tenacious in the love of wealth.
Sarwar	He certainly has a strong love for wealth and riches.
Khalifa	He loves material things excessively.
Hilali/Khan	And verily, he is violent in the love of wealth.
H/K/Saheeh	And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.
Malik	and surely he is violent in his love of this worldly wealth.[8]
QXP	And behold, in the love of wealth he is ardent. (102:1-2).
Maulana Ali	And truly on account of the love of wealth he is niggardly.
Free Minds	He loves wealth tenaciously.
Qaribullah	And indeed he is ardent for the love of good (wealth, becoming greedy).

George Sale	And he is immoderate in the love of worldly good.
JM Rodwell	And truly, he is vehement in the love of this world's good.

Asad	for, verily, to the love of wealth is he most ardently devoted.

al-`Adiyat 100:009

‏100:9 افلا يعلم اذا بعثر مافي القبور

Transliteration	Afala yaAAlamu itha buAAthira ma fee alquboori
Literal	So does he not know when what (is) in the graves/burial places is scattered/over thrown/strewn ?

Yusuf Ali	Does he not know,- when that which is in the graves is scattered abroad
Pickthal	Knoweth he not that, when the contents of the graves are poured forth
Arberry	Knows he not that when that which is in the tombs is over-thrown,
Shakir	Does he not then know when what is in the graves is raised,
Sarwar	Does he not know that on the day when those in the graves are resurrected
Khalifa	Does he not realize that the day will come when the graves are opened?
Hilali/Khan	Knows he not that when the contents of the graves are brought out and poured forth (all mankind is resurrected).
H/K/Saheeh	But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered
Malik	Is he not aware that when those who lie in the graves will be raised to life,[9]
QXP	Knows he not that all hidden things will be dug out? (Intentions, actions and material things that were robbed, and the disintegrated forms resurrected).
Maulana Ali	Knows he not when that which is in the graves is raised,
Free Minds	Does he not realise that when what is in the graves are scattered.
Qaribullah	Does he not know that when that which is in the graves is overthrown,

George Sale	Doth he not know, therefore, when that which is in the graves shall be taken forth,
JM Rodwell	Ah! knoweth he not, that when that which is in the graves shall be laid bare,

Asad	But does he not know that [on the Last Day,] when all that is in the graves is raised and brought out,

al-`Adiyat 100:010

‏100:10 وحصل مافي الصدور

Transliteration	Wahussila ma fee alssudoori
Literal	And what (is) in the chests (innermosts) is recovered/collected?

Yusuf Ali	And that which is (locked up) in (human) breasts is made manifest-
Pickthal	And the secrets of the breasts are made known,
Arberry	and that which is in the breasts is brought out --
Shakir	And what is in the breasts is made apparent?
Sarwar	and all that is in the hearts is made public,
Khalifa	And all secrets are brought out.
Hilali/Khan	And that which is in the breasts (of men) shall be made known.
H/K/Saheeh	And that within the breasts is obtained,
Malik	and that what is in their breasts will be made known,[10]
QXP	And the secrets of the hearts will be laid bare.
Maulana Ali	And that which is in the breasts is made manifest?
Free Minds	And what is in the chests is gathered.
Qaribullah	and that which is in the chest is brought out,

George Sale	and that which is in men's breasts shall be brought to light,
JM Rodwell	And that which is in men's breasts shall be brought forth,

Asad	and all that is [hidden] in men's hearts is bared -

al-`Adiyat 100:011

‏100:11 ان ربهم بهم يومئذ لخبير

Transliteration	Inna rabbahum bihim yawma-ithin lakhabeerun
Literal	That truly their Lord (is) with them (on) that day expert/experienced (E).

Yusuf Ali	That their Lord had been Well-acquainted with them, (even to) that Day?
Pickthal	On that day will their Lord be perfectly informed concerning them.
Arberry	surely on that day their Lord shall be aware of them!
Shakir	Most surely their Lord that day shall be fully aware of them.
Sarwar	their Lord will examine his deeds?.
Khalifa	They will find out, on that day, that their Lord has been fully Cognizant of them.
Hilali/Khan	Verily, that Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) their Lord will be Well-Acquainted with them (as to their deeds), (and will reward them for their deeds).
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted.
Malik	surely their Lord on that Day shall have full knowledge about them.[11]
QXP	(They will find out) on that Day - their Lord is fully Aware of them.
Maulana Ali	Surely their Lord this day is Aware of them.
Free Minds	That their Lord has been fully cognizant of them?
Qaribullah	indeed, on that Day their Lord will be aware of them!

George Sale	that their Lord will, on that day, be fully informed concerning them?
JM Rodwell	Verily their Lord shall on that day be informed concerning them?

Asad	that on that Day their Sustainer [will show that He] has always been fully aware of them?

No soul can believe exept by the will of Allah
