93:1 سورة الضحى بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والضحى


TransliterationWaaldduha
LiteralAnd/by the sunrise/daybreak .

Yusuf AliBy the Glorious Morning Light,
PickthalBy the morning hours
Arberry By the white forenoon
ShakirI swear by the early hours of the day,
SarwarBy the midday brightness
KhalifaBy the forenoon.
Hilali/KhanBy the forenoon (after sun-rise);
H/K/SaheehBy the morning brightness
MalikBy the morning day light,[1]
QXP(O Sincere human being!) Consider the Daylight.
Maulana AliBy the brightness of the day!
Free MindsBy the late morning.
Qaribullah By the midmorning,

ad-Dhuha 093:002

93:2 والليل اذا سجى


TransliterationWaallayli itha saja
LiteralAnd/by the night when/if it quietened/became covered .

Yusuf AliAnd by the Night when it is still,-
PickthalAnd by the night when it is stillest,
Arberry and the brooding night!
ShakirAnd the night when it covers with darkness.
Sarwarand by the calm of night,
KhalifaBy the night as it falls.
Hilali/KhanAnd by the night when it is still (or darkens);
H/K/SaheehAnd [by] the night when it covers with darkness,
Malikand by the night when it covers with darkness,[2]
QXPAnd the night when it is still. (There is light at the end of the tunnel and with hardship is ease, like there is Daybreak after the Night (89:1), (92:1-2), (94:6)).
Maulana AliAnd the night when it is still! --
Free MindsAnd the night when it falls.
Qaribullah and by the night when it covers,

George Saleand by the night, when it groweth dark:
JM RodwellAnd by the night when it darkeneth!

Asadand the night when it grows still and dark.



ad-Dhuha 093:003

93:3 ماودعك ربك وماقلى


TransliterationMa waddaAAaka rabbuka wama qala
LiteralYour Lord did not leave/desert you , and nor hate/hit (you) on the head.

Yusuf AliThy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.
PickthalThy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,
Arberry Thy Lord has neither forsaken thee nor hates thee
ShakirYour Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He become displeased,
Sarwar(Muhammad), your Lord has not abandoned you (by not sending you His revelation), nor is He displeased with you.
KhalifaYour Lord never abandoned you, nor did He forget.
Hilali/KhanYour Lord (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) has neither forsaken you nor hated you.
H/K/SaheehYour Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muúammad], nor has He detested [you].
Malikyour Lord has neither forsaken you, O Muhammad, nor is He displeased.[3]
QXPYour Lord has never forsaken you, nor did He ever forget you.
Maulana AliThy Lord has not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.
Free MindsYour Lord has not left you, nor did He forget.
Qaribullah your Lord has not forsaken you (Prophet Muhammad), nor does He hate you.

George SaleThy Lord hath not forsaken thee, neither doth He hate thee.
JM RodwellThy Lord hath not forsaken thee, neither hath he been displeased.

AsadThy Sustainer has not forsaken thee, nor does He scorn thee:



ad-Dhuha 093:004

93:4 وللاخرة خير لك من الاولى


TransliterationWalal-akhiratu khayrun laka mina al-oola
LiteralAnd the end (other life) (E) (is) better for you than the first/beginning.

Yusuf AliAnd verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.
PickthalAnd verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,
Arberry and the Last shall be better for thee than the First.
ShakirAnd surely what comes after is better for you than that which has gone before.
SarwarThe reward in the next life will certainly be better for you than worldly gains.
KhalifaThe Hereafter is far better for you than this first (life).
Hilali/KhanAnd indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world).
H/K/SaheehAnd the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
MalikCertainly the later period shall be better for you than the earlier.[4]
QXPAnd verily, being far-sighted is better for you than being short-sighted.
Maulana AliAnd surely the latter state is better for thee than the former.
Free MindsAnd the Hereafter is better for you than the first.
Qaribullah The Last shall be better for you than the First.

George SaleVerily the life to come shall be better for thee than this present life:
JM RodwellAnd surely the Future shall be better for thee than the Past,

Asadfor, indeed, the life to come will be better for thee than this earlier part [of thy life]!



ad-Dhuha 093:005

93:5 ولسوف يعطيك ربك فترضى


TransliterationWalasawfa yuAAteeka rabbuka fatarda
LiteralAnd your Lord will/shall (E) give/grant you , so you accept/approve .

Yusuf AliAnd soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.
PickthalAnd verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.
Arberry Thy Lord shall give thee, and thou shalt be satisfied.
ShakirAnd soon will your Lord give you so that you shall be well pleased.
SarwarYour Lord will soon grant you sufficient favors to please you.
KhalifaAnd your Lord will give you enough; you will be pleased.
Hilali/KhanAnd verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased.
H/K/SaheehAnd your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
MalikSoon your Lord shall grant you something with which you will be well-pleased.[5]
QXPAnd verily, soon will your Lord give unto you so that you will be well-pleased.
Maulana AliAnd soon will thy Lord give thee so that thou wilt be well pleased.
Free MindsAnd your Lord will give you and you will be pleased.
Qaribullah Your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

George SaleAnd thy Lord shall give thee a reward wherewith thou shalt be well pleased.
JM RodwellAnd in the end shall thy Lord be bounteous to thee and thou be satisfied.

AsadAnd, indeed, in time will thy Sustainer grant thee [what thy heart desires], and thou shalt be well-pleased.



ad-Dhuha 093:006

93:6 الم يجدك يتيما فاوى


TransliterationAlam yajidka yateeman faawa
LiteralDid He not find you an orphan , so he sheltered (you)?

Yusuf AliDid He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?
PickthalDid He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)?
Arberry Did He not find thee an orphan, and shelter thee?
ShakirDid He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?
SarwarDid He not find you as an orphan and give you shelter?.
KhalifaDid He not find you orphaned and He gave you a home?

93:7 ووجدك ضالا فهدى


TransliterationWawajadaka dallan fahada
LiteralAnd He found you misguided so He guided (you)?

Yusuf AliAnd He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.
PickthalDid He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)?
Arberry Did He not find thee erring, and guide thee?
ShakirAnd find you lost (that is, unrecognized by men) and guide (them to you)?
SarwarDid He not find you wandering about and give you guidance?.
KhalifaHe found you astray, and guided you.
Hilali/KhanAnd He found you unaware (of the Quran, its legal laws, and Prophethood, etc.) and guided you?
H/K/SaheehAnd He found you lost and guided [you],
MalikDid He not find you lost and gave you guidance?[7]
QXPAnd He found you looking for guidance, and showed you the way. ('Dhall' = Wandering = Looking for guidance = Straying).
Maulana AliAnd find thee groping, so He showed the way?
Free MindsAnd He found you lost, and He guided you?
Qaribullah Did He not find you a wanderer so He guided you?

George SaleAnd did He not find thee wandering in error, and hath He not guided thee into the truth?
JM RodwellAnd found thee erring and guided thee,

AsadAnd found thee lost on thy way, and guided thee?



ad-Dhuha 093:008

93:8 ووجدك عائلا فاغنى


TransliterationWawajadaka AAa-ilan faaghna
LiteralAnd He found you having dependents/poor , so He enriched/satisfied (you)?

Yusuf AliAnd He found thee in need, and made thee independent.
PickthalDid He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)?
Arberry Did He not find thee needy, and suffice thee?
ShakirAnd find you in want and make you to be free from want?
SarwarAnd did He not find you in need and make you rich?.
KhalifaHe found you poor, and made you rich.
Hilali/KhanAnd He found you poor, and made you rich (selfsufficient with selfcontentment, etc.)?
H/K/SaheehAnd He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
MalikDid He not find you poor and made you self-sufficient?[8]
QXPAnd He found you dependent, and made you independent. (Infancy to youth).
Maulana AliAnd find thee in want, so He enriched thee?
Free MindsAnd He found you in need, so He gave you riches?
Qaribullah Did He not find you poor and suffice you?

George SaleAnd did He not find thee needy, and hath He not enriched thee?
JM RodwellAnd found thee needy and enriched thee.

AsadAnd found thee in want, and given thee sufficiency?



ad-Dhuha 093:009

93:9 فاما اليتيم فلا تقهر


TransliterationFaamma alyateema fala taqhar
LiteralSo as for the orphan , so do not humiliate/compel .

Yusuf AliTherefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,
PickthalTherefor the orphan oppress not,
Arberry As for the orphan, do not oppress him,
ShakirTherefore, as for the orphan, do not oppress (him).
SarwarDo not oppress the orphans
KhalifaTherefore, you shall not forsake the orphan.
Hilali/KhanTherefore, treat not the orphan with oppression,
H/K/SaheehSo as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
MalikTherefore, do not treat the orphan with harshness[9]
QXPNow you shall not treat harshly any orphan, widow, the helpless and he who feels left alone in the society.
Maulana AliTherefore the orphan, oppress not.
Free MindsAs for the orphan, you shall not make him sad.
Qaribullah Do not oppress the orphan,

George SaleWherefore oppress not the orphan;
JM RodwellAs to the orphan therefore wrong him not;

AsadTherefore, the orphan shalt thou never wrong,



ad-Dhuha 093:010

93:10 واما السائل فلا تنهر


TransliterationWaamma alssa-ila fala tanhar
LiteralAnd as for the asker/questioner/beggar , so do not yell at/drive away .

Yusuf AliNor repulse the petitioner (unheard);
PickthalTherefor the beggar drive not away,
Arberry and as for the beggar, scold him not;
ShakirAnd as for him who asks, do not chide (him),
Sarwarand do not reject the beggars
KhalifaNor shall you reprimand the beggar.
Hilali/KhanAnd repulse not the beggar;
H/K/SaheehAnd as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].
Malikand do not chide away the beggar,[10]
QXPAnd never shall you repulse him who seeks help.
Maulana AliAnd him who asks, chide not.
Free MindsAnd as for the beggar, you shall not reprimand.
Qaribullah nor drive away the one who asks.

George Saleneither repulse the beggar:
JM RodwellAnd as to him that asketh of thee, chide him not away;

Asadand him that seeks [thy] help shalt thou never chide,



ad-Dhuha 093:011

93:11 واما بنعمة ربك فحدث


TransliterationWaamma biniAAmati rabbika fahaddith
LiteralAnd as for with your Lord's blessing/goodness , so tell/inform.

Yusuf AliBut the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!
PickthalTherefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.
Arberry and as for thy Lord's blessing, declare it.
ShakirAnd as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it).
Sarwarand proclaim the bounties of your Lord.
KhalifaYou shall proclaim the blessing your Lord has bestowed upon you.
Hilali/KhanAnd proclaim the Grace of your Lord (i.e. the Prophethood and all other Graces).
H/K/SaheehBut as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
Malikand rehearse the bounty of your Lord.[11]
QXPBut the blessings of your Lord you shall speak of by sharing. ('Haddith' = Convey and share what you have learned and gained).
Maulana AliAnd the favour of thy Lord proclaim.
Free MindsAnd you shall proclaim the blessings from your Lord.
Qaribullah But tell of the favors of your Lord!

George SaleBut declare the goodness of thy Lord.
JM RodwellAnd as for the favours of thy Lord tell them abroad.

Asadand of thy Sustainer's blessings shalt thou [ever] speak.
