86:1 سورة الطارق بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والسماء والطارق |

Literal | And/by the sky/space, and/by the Night Comer/star (Morning Star). |

86:2 وماادراك ماالطارق |

Transliteration | Wama adraka ma alttariqu |
Literal | And what made you know/informed you what the Night Comer/star (Morning Star is)? |

Yusuf Ali | And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- |
Pickthal | - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is! |
Arberry | And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? |
Shakir | And what will make you know what the comer by night is? |

86:3 النجم الثاقب |

Literal | The star/planet, the lit/penetrating . |

86:4 ان كل نفس لما عليها حافظ |

Transliteration | In kullu nafsin lamma AAalayha hafithun |
Literal | That truly every/each self (is) except on it a protector/safe keeper . |

|
Yusuf Ali | There is no soul but has a protector over it. |
Pickthal | No human soul but hath a guardian over it. |
Arberry | Over every soul there is a watcher. |
Shakir | There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. |
Sarwar | There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). |
Khalifa | Absolutely, everyone is well guarded. |
Hilali/Khan | There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) |
H/K/Saheeh | There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. |
Malik | (Just as Allah Almighty is taking care of each star in the galaxies, similarly) over each soul there is an appointed guardian angel.[4] |
QXP | There is no person without a watch being kept over him. (The Law of Requital is ever-vigilant). |
Maulana Ali | There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. |

Qaribullah | For every soul there is a watcher. |

86:5 فلينظر الانسان مم خلق |

Literal | So the human/mankind should look/see from what he was created. |

Yusuf Ali | Now let man but think from what he is created! |
Pickthal | So let man consider from what he is created. |

86:8 انه على رجعه لقادر |

Transliteration | Innahu AAala rajAAihi laqadirun |
Literal | That He truly (is) on returning him capable/able (E) . |

Yusuf Ali | Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! |
Pickthal | Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) |

86:9 يوم تبلى السرائر |

Literal | A day/time the secrets/intentions be tested. |

Yusuf Ali | The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, |
Pickthal | On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. |
Arberry | upon the day when the secrets are tried, |
Shakir | On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, |
Sarwar | On the day when all secrets will be made public, |
Khalifa | The day all secrets become known. |
Hilali/Khan | The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). |

86:10 فماله من قوة ولاناصر |

Transliteration | Fama lahu min quwwatin wala nasirin |
Literal | So (there is) no strength/power, and nor victorior/savior for him. |

Yusuf Ali | (Man) will have no power, and no helper. |
Pickthal | Then will he have no might nor any helper. |
Arberry | and he shall have no strength, no helper. |
Shakir | He shall have neither strength nor helper. |
Sarwar | he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. |
Khalifa | He will have no power, nor a helper. |

Yusuf Ali | By the Firmament which returns (in its round), |
Pickthal | By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, |

Shakir | I swear by the raingiving heavens, |

Yusuf Ali | And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- |
Pickthal | And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) |
Arberry | by earth splitting with verdure, |
Shakir | And the earth splitting (with plants); |
Sarwar | and the replenishing earth, |
Khalifa | By the earth that cracks (to grow plants). |

86:13 انه لقول فصل |

Transliteration | Innahu laqawlun faslun |
Literal | That it truly is a word/statement (of) judgment/partition (decisive). |

Yusuf Ali | Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): |
Pickthal | Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, |
Arberry | surely it is a decisive word; |
Shakir | Most surely it is a decisive word, |
Sarwar | the Quran is the final word, |
Khalifa | This is a serious narration. |
Hilali/Khan | Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil). |
H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, the Qurâ an is a decisive statement, |
Malik | surely this Qur’an is a decisive word,[13] |
QXP | Behold, this (Qur'an) is a Conclusive Word. (That can give you a new life. (40:29)). |

86:15 انهم يكيدون كيدا |

Literal | That they truly plot/conspire a plot/conspiracy . |

Yusuf Ali | As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, |
Pickthal | Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) |
Arberry | They are devising guile, |
Shakir | Surely they will make a scheme, |
Sarwar | They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, |
Khalifa | They plot and scheme. |
Hilali/Khan | Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). |
H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, they are planning a plan, |
Malik | These unbelievers of Mecca are plotting a scheme:[15] |
QXP | (Yet) Behold, they plot and scheme (to refute the Truth (34:33)). |

86:16 واكيد كيدا |

Transliteration | Waakeedu kaydan |
Literal | And I plot/conspire a plot/conspiracy . |

Yusuf Ali | And I am planning a scheme. |
Pickthal | And I plot a plot (against them). |
Arberry | and I am devising guile. |
Shakir | And I (too) will make a scheme. |
Sarwar | but I too plan against them. |
Khalifa | But so do I. |
Hilali/Khan | And I (too) am planning a plan. |
H/K/Saheeh | But I am planning a plan. |
Malik | and I, too, am plotting a scheme.[16] |
QXP | But My Law works its own Way. |
Maulana Ali | And I plan a plan. |

at-Tariq 086:017
86:17 فمهل الكافرين امهلهم رويدا |

Transliteration | Famahhili alkafireena amhilhum ruwaydan |
Literal | So delay/give time (to) the disbelievers, delay them/give them time slowly/gently. |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). |
Pickthal | So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. |
Arberry | So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. |
Shakir | So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a |
Sarwar | Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. |
Khalifa | Just respite the disbelievers a short respite. |
Hilali/Khan | So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. |
