| Yusuf Ali | Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire), |

| Literal | And they are on what they are making/doing with (to) the believers witnessing/testifying. |

| 85:8 ومانقموا منهم الا ان يؤمنوا بالله العزيز الحميد |

| Transliteration | Wama naqamoo minhum illa an yu/minoo biAllahi alAAazeezi alhameedi |
| Literal | And they did not revenge/punish from them except (because) that (E) they believe with (in) God, the glorious/mighty , the praiseworthy/commendable. |

| Yusuf Ali | And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!- |
| Pickthal | They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise, |

| 85:9 الذي له ملك السماوات والارض والله على كل شئ شهيد |

| Transliteration | Allathee lahu mulku alssamawati waal-ardi waAllahu AAala kulli shay-in shaheedun |
| Literal | Who for Him (is) the skies'/space's and the earth's/Planet Earth's ownership/kingdom , and God (is) on every thing witnessing . |

| Yusuf Ali | Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness to all things. |
| Pickthal | Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness. |

| 85:10 ان الذين فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات ثم لم يتوبوا فلهم عذاب جهنم ولهم عذاب الحريق |

| Transliteration | Inna allatheena fatanoo almu/mineena waalmu/minati thumma lam yatooboo falahum AAathabu jahannama walahum AAathabu alhareeqi |
| Literal | That truly those who tortured/betrayed/allured the believers (M) and the believers (F), then they did not repent, so for them (is) Hell's torture, and for them (is) the burning's torture. |

| Yusuf Ali | Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire. |
| Pickthal | Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning. |
| Arberry | Those who persecute the believers, men and women, and then have not repented, there awaits them the chastisement of Gehenna, and there awaits them the chastisement of the burning. |
| Shakir | Surely (as for) those who persecute the believing men and the believing women, then do not repent, they shall have the chastisement of hell, and they shall have the chastisement of burning. |
| Sarwar | Those who persecute the believing men and women without repenting will suffer the torment of hell and that of the burning fire. |
| Khalifa | Surely, those who persecute the believing men and women, then fail to repent, have incurred the retribution of Gehenna; they have incurred the retribution of burning. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, those who put into trial the believing men and believing women (by torturing them and burning them), and then do not turn in repentance, (to Allah), will have the torment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the burning Fire. |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire. |
| Malik | Those who persecute the believing men and believing women and do not repent, shall receive the punishment of hell, wherein they shall have the punishment of conflagration.[10] |
| QXP | Behold, those who persecute the believing men and the believing women, and then repent not, theirs, verily, is the doom of Hell - yes, theirs is the doom of burning. |
| Maulana Ali | Those who persecute believing men and believing women, then repent not, theirs is the chastisement of hell, and theirs the chastisement of burning. |
| Free Minds | Those who have put the believing men and women under ordeal, and then did not repent, they will have the retribution of Hell, and they will have the retribution of burning. |
| Qaribullah | Those who persecuted the believing men and women and never repented, there is for them the punishment of Gehenna (Hell), and for them the punishment of the burning. |

| George Sale | Verily for those who persecute the true believers of either sex, and afterwards repent not, is prepared the torment of hell; and they shall suffer the pain of burning. |

al-Buruj 085:011
| 85:11 ان الذين امنوا وعملوا الصالحات لهم جنات تجري من تحتها الانهار ذلك الفوز الكبير |

| Transliteration | Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum jannatun tajree min tahtiha al-anharu thalika alfawzu alkabeeru |
| Literal | That truly those who believed and made/did the correct/righteous deeds, for them (are) treed gardens/paradises the rivers/waterways flow from below it, that is the winning/success , the great . |

| Yusuf Ali | For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires), |
| Pickthal | Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success. |
| Arberry | Those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for them await gardens underneath which rivers flow; that is the great triumph. |
| Shakir | Surely (as for) those who believe and do good, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow, that is the great achievement. |
| Sarwar | As for the righteously striving believers, they will live in Paradise wherein streams flow. This is the greatest triumph. |
| Khalifa | Surely, those who believed and led a righteous life, have deserved gardens with flowing streams. This is the greatest triumph. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success. |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment. |
| Malik | As for those who believe and do good deeds, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow; which will be the greatest success.[11] |
| QXP | Verily, those who choose to be graced with belief and do actions that help people, theirs are the Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Eminence. |
| Maulana Ali | Those who believe and do good, theirs are Gardens wherein flow rivers. That is the great achievement. |
| Free Minds | Those who believe and do good works, they will have gardens with rivers flowing beneath. Such is the great reward. |
| Qaribullah | (But) for those who believe and do good works, for them there are Gardens underneath which rivers flow that is the Great Victory! |

| George Sale | But for those who believe, and do that which is right, are destined gardens beneath which rivers flow: This shall be great felicity. |
| JM Rodwell | But for those who shall have believed and done the things that be right, are the Gardens beneath whose shades the rivers flow. This the immense bliss! |

| 85:12 ان بطش ربك لشديد |

| Transliteration | Inna batsha rabbika lashadeedun |
| Literal | That truly your Lord's violent attack/destruction (is) strong (E) (severe). |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord. |
| Pickthal | Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern. |
| Arberry | Surely thy Lord's assault is terrible. |
| Shakir | Surely the might of your Lord is great. |
| Sarwar | The vengeance of God is terribly severe. |
| Khalifa | Indeed, your Lord's blow is severe. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) the Grip (Punishment) of your Lord is severe. |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe. |
| Malik | Surely, the seizure of your Lord is very severe.[12] |
| QXP | (Yet) Verily, strong is the Grip of your Lord! |
| Maulana Ali | Surely the grip of thy Lord is severe. |
| Free Minds | The punishment of your Lord is severe. |
| Qaribullah | Indeed, the seizing of your Lord is severe. |

al-Buruj 085:013
| 85:13 انه هو يبدئ ويعيد |

| Transliteration | Innahu huwa yubdi-o wayuAAeedu |
| Literal | That He truly creates/initiates , and returns/repeats . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life). |
| Pickthal | Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth, |
| Arberry | Surely it is He who originates, and brings again, |
| Shakir | Surely He it is Who originates and reproduces, |
| Sarwar | It is He who creates all things and causes them to return. |
| Khalifa | He is the One who initiates and repeats. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, He it is Who begins (punishment) and repeats (punishment in the Hereafter) (or originates the creation of everything, and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection). |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats. |
| Malik | Surely, He it is Who originates the creation of everything, and He it is Who will repeat it on the Day of Resurrection.[13] |
| QXP | Behold, He it is Who originates (life) and then makes again and again. |
| Maulana Ali | Surely He it is Who creates first and reproduces; |
| Free Minds | It is He who initiates and then returns. |

| 85:17 هل اتاك حديث الجنود |

| 85:19 بل الذين كفروا في تكذيب |

| Transliteration | Bali allatheena kafaroo fee taktheebin |
| Literal | But those who disbelieved (are) in lying/denial/falsification. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)! |
| Pickthal | Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial |
| Arberry | Nay, but the unbelievers still cry lies, |
| Shakir | Nay! those who disbelieve are in (the act of) giving the lie to the truth. |
| Sarwar | In fact, the disbelievers had always rejected (Our revelations). |
| Khalifa | Those who disbelieve are plagued with denial. |
| Hilali/Khan | Nay! The disbelievers (persisted) in denying (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and his Message of Islamic Monotheism). |
| H/K/Saheeh | But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial, |
| Malik | Yet the unbelievers persist in denying the truth,[19] |
| QXP | And yet the rejecters knowingly live in denial. |
| Maulana Ali | Nay, those who disbelieve give the lie -- |
| Free Minds | No, those who rejected are in denial. |
| Qaribullah | Yet the unbelievers still belie, |
| |
|
| George Sale | Yet the unbelievers cease not to accuse the divine revelations of falsehood: |
| JM Rodwell | Nay! the infields are all for denial: |

| Asad | And yet, they who are bent on denying the truth persist in giving it the lie: |

| 85:20 والله من ورائهم محيط |

| Transliteration | WaAllahu min wara-ihim muheetun |
| Literal | And God is from behind them surrounding/comprehending . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | But Allah doth encompass them from behind! |
| Pickthal | And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them. |
| Arberry | and God is behind them, encompassing. |
| Shakir | And Allah encompasses them on every side. |
| Sarwar | However, God encompassed their activities. |
| Khalifa | GOD is fully aware of them. |
| Hilali/Khan | And Allah encompasses them from behind! (i.e. all their deeds are within His Knowledge, and He will requite them for their deeds). |
| H/K/Saheeh | While Allah encompasses them from behind. |
| Malik | although Allah has encircled them from all around.[20] |
| QXP | But Allah surrounds them without them conceiving it. ('Minwwaraihim' = From behind them = Without them conceiving it). |
| Maulana Ali | And Allah encompasses them on all sides. |
| Free Minds | And God after them is encompassing. |
| Qaribullah | Allah encompasses them all from behind. |
