| 87:2 الذي خلق فسوى |

| Transliteration | Allathee khalaqa fasawwa |
| Literal | Who created, so He straightened. |

|
| Yusuf Ali | Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion; |
| Pickthal | Who createth, then disposeth; |
| Arberry | who created and shaped, |
| Shakir | Who creates, then makes complete, |
| Sarwar | Who has created (all things) proportionately, |
| Khalifa | He creates and shapes. |

| 87:3 والذي قدر فهدى |

| Transliteration | Waallathee qaddara fahada |
| Literal | And who predestined/evaluated , so He guided. |

| Yusuf Ali | Who hath ordained laws. And granted guidance; |
| Pickthal | Who measureth, then guideth; |
| Arberry | who determined and guided, |
| Shakir | And Who makes (things) according to a measure, then guides (them to their goal), |
| Sarwar | decreed their destinies, and provided them with guidance. |
| Khalifa | He designs and guides. |
| Hilali/Khan | And Who has measured (preordainments for each and everything even to be blessed or wretched); then guided (i.e. showed mankind the right as well as wrong paths, and guided the animals to pasture); |

| Yusuf Ali | And Who bringeth out the (green and luscious) pasture, |
| Pickthal | Who bringeth forth the pasturage, |

| Sarwar | It is He who has caused the grass to grow, |

| 87:5 فجعله غثاء احوى |
| |

| Transliteration | FajaAAalahu ghuthaan ahwa |
| Literal | So He made/created it rotten/spoiled (thin and dry) green/red with blackness. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And then doth make it (but) swarthy stubble. |
| Pickthal | Then turneth it to russet stubble. |
| Arberry | then made it a blackening wrack. |
| Shakir | Then makes it dried up, dust-colored. |
| Sarwar | then caused it to wither away. |
| Khalifa | Then turns it into light hay. |
| Hilali/Khan | And then makes it dark stubble. |
| H/K/Saheeh | And [then] makes it black stubble. |
| Malik | then reduces it to black rubbish.[5] |
| QXP | And then turns it into rust-brown residue. (18:45). |

| Qaribullah | then made it dry dark, flaky stubble, |

| George Sale | and afterwards rendereth the same dry stubble of a dusky hue. |

| 87:6 سنقرئك فلا تنسى |
| |

| Transliteration | Sanuqri-oka fala tansa |
| Literal | We will make you read, so do not forget. |

|
| Yusuf Ali | By degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not forget, |
| Pickthal | We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget |
| Arberry | We shall make thee recite, to forget not |

| Sarwar | We shall teach you (the Quran) and you will not forget it |

| 87:7 الا ماشاء الله انه يعلم الجهر ومايخفى |

| Transliteration | Illa ma shaa Allahu innahu yaAAlamu aljahra wama yakhfa |
| Literal | Except what God willed/wanted/intended, that He truly knows the declared/publicized and what hides. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Except as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden. |
| Pickthal | Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden; |
| Arberry | save what God wills; surely He knows what is spoken aloud and what is hidden. |
| Shakir | Except what Allah pleases, surely He knows the manifest, and what is hidden. |
| Sarwar | unless God wills it to be otherwise. He knows all that is made public and all that remains hidden. |

| 87:8 ونيسرك لليسرى |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Wanuyassiruka lilyusra |
| Literal | And We ease you to the ease/prosperity. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (Path). |
| Pickthal | And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease. |
| Arberry | We shall ease thee unto the Easing. |
| Shakir | And We will make your way smooth to a state of ease. |
| Sarwar | We shall make all your tasks easy. |
| Khalifa | We will direct you to the easiest path. |
| Hilali/Khan | And We shall make easy for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) the easy way (i.e. the doing of righteous deeds). |
| H/K/Saheeh | And We will ease you toward ease. |
| Malik | We shall make it easy for you to follow the easy way.[8] |
| QXP | And thus We shall ease your way to the ultimate ease. (To the end that you will establish the Qur'an in the society). |
| Maulana Ali | And We shall make thy way smooth to a state of ease. |
| Free Minds | And We will make easy for you the way. |
| Qaribullah | We shall ease you to the easy. |

| George Sale | And We will facilitate unto thee the most easy way. |

| Asad | and [thus] shall We make easy for thee the path towards [ultimate] ease. |
al-A`la 087:009
| 87:9 فذكر ان نفعت الذكرى |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Fathakkir in nafaAAati alththikra |
| Literal | So remind if the remembrance/reminder benefited. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer). |
| Pickthal | Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder. |
| Arberry | Therefore remind, if the Reminder profits, |
| Shakir | Therefore do remind, surely reminding does profit. |
| Sarwar | Therefore, keep on preaching as long as it is of benefit. |
| Khalifa | Therefore, you shall remind; perhaps the reminder will benefit. |
| Hilali/Khan | Therefore remind (men) in case the reminder profits (them). |
| H/K/Saheeh | So remind, if the reminder should benefit; |
| Malik | Therefore remind, surely reminder does benefit.[9] |

| Asad | REMIND, THEN, [others of the truth, regardless of] whether this reminding [would seem to] be of use [or not]: |

| 87:10 سيذكر من يخشى |

| Transliteration | Sayaththakkaru man yakhsha |
| Literal | Who fears will remember/praise/glorify . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | The admonition will be received by those who fear (Allah): |
| Pickthal | He will heed who feareth, |
| Arberry | and he who fears shall remember, |
| Shakir | He who fears will mind, |
| Sarwar | Those who have fear of God will benefit |
| Khalifa | The reverent will take heed. |
| Hilali/Khan | The reminder will be received by him who fears (Allah), |
| H/K/Saheeh | He who fears [Allah] will be reminded. |
| Malik | He who fears Allah will heed the reminder,[10] |
| QXP | (Behold), he will heed who fears (the consequences of pre-emptive rejection). |

| Qaribullah | and he who fears shall remember, |

| 87:11 ويتجنبها الاشقى |

| Transliteration | Wayatajannabuha al-ashqa |
| Literal | And the most miserable/unhappy avoids/distances himself from it. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | But it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones, |
| Pickthal | But the most hapless will flout it, |
| Arberry | but the most wretched shall flout it, |
| Shakir | And the most unfortunate one will avoid it, |
| Sarwar | but the reprobates will turn away |
| Khalifa | The wicked will avoid it. |
| Hilali/Khan | But it will be avoided by the wretched, |
| H/K/Saheeh | But the wretched one will avoid it |
| Malik | and he who is unfortunate will avoid it.[11] |

| 87:12 الذي يصلى النار الكبرى |
| |

| Transliteration | Allathee yasla alnnara alkubra |
| Literal | Who roasts/suffers the fire , the greatest . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Who will enter the Great Fire, |
| Pickthal | He who will be flung to the great Fire |
| Arberry | even he who shall roast in the Great Fire, |
| Shakir | Who shall enter the great fire; |
| Sarwar | and suffer the heat of the great fire |
| Khalifa | Consequently, he will suffer the great Hellfire. |
| Hilali/Khan | Who will enter the great Fire and made to taste its burning, |
| H/K/Saheeh | [He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire, |

| 87:13 ثم لايموت فيها ولايحيى |

| Transliteration | Thumma la yamootu feeha wala yahya |
| Literal | Then he does not die in it and nor live. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | In which they will then neither die nor live. |
| Pickthal | Wherein he will neither die nor live. |
| Arberry | then he shall neither die therein, nor live. |
| Shakir | Then therein he shall neither live nor die. |
| Sarwar | wherein they will neither live nor die. |
| Khalifa | Wherein he never dies, nor stays alive. |

| 87:14 قد افلح من تزكى |
| |

| Transliteration | Qad aflaha man tazakka |
| Literal | Who purified/corrected had succeeded/won. |

| Yusuf Ali | But those will prosper who purify themselves, |
| Pickthal | He is successful who groweth, |
| Arberry | Prosperous is he who has cleansed himself, |
| Shakir | He indeed shall be successful who purifies himself, |
| Sarwar | Lasting happiness will be for those who purify themselves, |
| Khalifa | Successful indeed is the one who redeems his soul. |
| Hilali/Khan | Indeed whosoever purifies himself (by avoiding polytheism and accepting Islamic Monotheism) shall achieve success, |

| 87:15 وذكر اسم ربه فصلى |
| |

| Transliteration | Wathakara isma rabbihi fasalla |
| Literal | And mentioned/remembered his Lord's name, so he prayed. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And glorify the name of their Guardian-Lord, and (lift their hearts) in prayer. |
| Pickthal | And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth, |
| Arberry | and mentions the Name of his Lord, and prays. |
| Shakir | And magnifies the name of his Lord and prays. |
| Sarwar | remember the name of the Lord, and pray to Him. |
| Khalifa | By remembering the name of his Lord and observing the contact prayers (Salat). |

| 87:16 بل تؤثرون الحياة الدنيا |

| Transliteration | Bal tu/thiroona alhayata alddunya |
| Literal | But you prefer/choose the life the present/worldly life. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Day (behold), ye prefer the life of this world; |
| Pickthal | But ye prefer the life of the world |
| Arberry | Nay, but you prefer the present life; |
| Shakir | Nay! you prefer the life of this world, |
| Sarwar | However, (the disbelievers) prefer the worldly life |
| Khalifa | Indeed, you are preoccupied with this first life. |

| Yusuf Ali | And this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),- |

| Shakir | Most surely this is in the earlier scriptures, |
