Pickthal | And Him Who hath created male and female, |
Arberry | and That which created the male and the female, |
Shakir | And the creating of the male and the female, |

92:4 ان سعيكم لشتى |

Transliteration | Inna saAAyakum lashatta |
Literal | That truly your striving/endeavor (is) separate/different (E) . |

Yusuf Ali | Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. |
Pickthal | Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). |
Arberry | surely your striving is to diverse ends. |
Shakir | Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). |
Sarwar | you strive in various ways. |
Khalifa | Your works are of various kinds. |
Hilali/Khan | Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); |
H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, your efforts are diverse. |
Malik | surely your efforts are directed towards various ends.[4] |
QXP | Behold, your effort is diverse. (Your occupations and earnings are different. Let not this be a cause for division among you). |
Maulana Ali | Your striving is surely (for) diverse (ends). |
Free Minds | Your works are various. |
Qaribullah | your striving is indeed to different ends! |

al-Layl 092:005
92:5 فاما من اعطى واتقى |

Transliteration | Faamma man aAAta waittaqa |
Literal | So but who gave/granted and feared and obeyed. |

Yusuf Ali | So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), |
Pickthal | As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) |
Arberry | As for him who gives and is godfearing |
Shakir | Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), |
Sarwar | We shall facilitate the path to bliss |
Khalifa | As for him who gives to charity and maintains righteousness. |
Hilali/Khan | As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, |

Malik | So for him who gives in charity, fears Allah[5] |

Sarwar | for those who spend for the cause of God, |

Literal | So We will ease him to the ease/prosperity. |

Yusuf Ali | We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. |
Pickthal | Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. |
Arberry | We shall surely ease him to the Easing. |
Shakir | We will facilitate for him the easy end. |
Sarwar | observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. |
Khalifa | We will direct him towards happiness. |
Hilali/Khan | We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). |

92:8 واما من بخل واستغنى |

Literal | And but who was stingy/miser and sufficed/availed . |

Yusuf Ali | But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, |
Pickthal | But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, |
Arberry | But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, |
Shakir | And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), |
Sarwar | But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth,. |
Khalifa | But he who is stingy, though he is rich. |

92:9 وكذب بالحسنى |

Yusuf Ali | And gives the lie to the best,- |
Pickthal | And disbelieveth in goodness; |
Arberry | and cries lies to the reward most fair, |
Shakir | And rejects the best, |
Sarwar | and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). |
Khalifa | And disbelieves in the scripture. |
Hilali/Khan | And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); |

Malik | and rejects the goodness,[9] |

92:10 فسنيسره للعسرى |

Transliteration | Fasanuyassiruhu lilAAusra |
Literal | So We will ease him to the difficulty/hardship . |

Yusuf Ali | We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; |
Pickthal | Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. |
Arberry | We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; |
Shakir | We will facilitate for him the difficult end. |
Sarwar | We shall facilitate the path to affliction |
Khalifa | We will direct him towards misery. |
Hilali/Khan | We will make smooth for him the path for evil; |
H/K/Saheeh | We will ease him toward difficulty. |

al-Layl 092:011
92:11 ومايغني عنه ماله اذا تردى |

Transliteration | Wama yughnee AAanhu maluhu itha taradda |
Literal | And his property/possession/wealth does not enrich/suffice (replace) from him if he fell/was destroyed . |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). |
Pickthal | His riches will not save him when he perisheth. |
Arberry | his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. |
Shakir | And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. |
Sarwar | and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. |
Khalifa | His money cannot help him when he falls. |
Hilali/Khan | And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). |
H/K/Saheeh | And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? |
Malik | Just think! What benefit will he get from his wealth, if he himself is doomed.[11] |
QXP | And what could his wealth avail when he himself falls! (69:28), (111:2). |
Maulana Ali | And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. |
Free Minds | And his wealth will not avail him when he demises. |
Qaribullah | When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. |

al-Layl 092:012
92:12 ان علينا للهدى |

Transliteration | Inna AAalayna lalhuda |
Literal | That truly on Us (is) the guidance (E). |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, |
Pickthal | Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance |
Arberry | Surely upon Us rests the guidance, |
Shakir | Surely Ours is it to show the way, |
Sarwar | Surely, in Our hands is guidance, |
Khalifa | We provide the guidance. |
Hilali/Khan | Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, |
H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. |
Malik | Surely it is for Us to give guidance,[12] |
QXP | Behold, it is for Us to show you the Way (through this Revelation). |
Maulana Ali | Surely Ours is it to show the way, |

92:13 وان لنا للاخرة والاولى |

Transliteration | Wa-inna lana lal-akhirata waal-oola |
Literal | And that truly for Us (is) the end (other life) (E), and the first/beginning. |

Yusuf Ali | And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. |
Pickthal | And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. |
Arberry | and to Us belong the Last and the First. |
Shakir | And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. |
Sarwar | and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. |
Khalifa | We control the Hereafter, as well as this life. |
Hilali/Khan | And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). |
H/K/Saheeh | And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. |
Malik | and surely to Us belong the end and the beginning.[13] |

92:14 فانذرتكم نارا تلظى |

Transliteration | Faanthartukum naran talaththa |
Literal | And so I warned you/gave you notice (of) a fire blazing/burning/inflaming. |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; |
Pickthal | Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire |
Arberry | Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, |
Shakir | Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: |
Sarwar | I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire |
Khalifa | I have warned you about the blazing Hellfire. |
Hilali/Khan | Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); |
H/K/Saheeh | So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. |

92:15 لايصلاها الا الاشقى |

Literal | None roasts/suffers it except the most miserable/unhappy. |

Yusuf Ali | None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones |
Pickthal | Which only the most wretched must endure, |
Arberry | whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, |
Shakir | None shall enter it but the most unhappy, |
Sarwar | in which no one will suffer forever |
Khalifa | None burns therein except the wicked. |

92:16 الذي كذب وتولى |

Yusuf Ali | Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. |
Pickthal | He who denieth and turneth away. |
Arberry | even he who cried lies, and turned away; |
Shakir | Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. |
Sarwar | except the wicked ones who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. |
Khalifa | Who disbelieves and turns away. |
Hilali/Khan | Who denies and turns away. |
H/K/Saheeh | Who had denied and turned away. |
Malik | who deny the truth and give no heed.[16] |

al-Layl 092:017
92:17 وسيجنبها الاتقى |

Transliteration | Wasayujannabuha al-atqa |
Literal | And the most fearing and obeying will be made to avoid it/be distanced from it. |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- |
Pickthal | Far removed from it will be the righteous |
Arberry | and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, |
Shakir | And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), |
Sarwar | The pious ones who spend for the cause of God |
Khalifa | Avoiding it will be the righteous. |
Hilali/Khan | And Al-Muttaqoon (the pious and righteous - see V.2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). |
H/K/Saheeh | But the righteous one will avoid it |
Malik | But the pious shall be kept away from it,[17] |
QXP | But far removed from it is he who walks aright. |
Maulana Ali | And away from it shall be kept the most faithful to duty, |
Free Minds | As for the righteous, he will be spared it. |
Qaribullah | and from which the cautious shall be distanced. |

al-Layl 092:018
92:18 الذي يؤتى ماله يتزكى |

Transliteration | Allathee yu/tee malahu yatazakka |
Literal | Who gives/brings his property/possession/wealth (and) purifies/corrects (himself). |
|
|
Yusuf Ali | Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, |
Pickthal | Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). |
Arberry | even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself |
Shakir | Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself |
Sarwar | and purify themselves will be safe from this fire. |
Khalifa | Who gives from his money to charity. |
Hilali/Khan | He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, |

Literal | And (there) is not to anyone at Him from a blessing/goodness to be rewarded/reimbursed . |

Yusuf Ali | And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, |
Pickthal | And none hath with him any favour for reward, |
Arberry | and confers no favour on any man for recompense, |
Shakir | And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, |
Sarwar | They do not expect any reward |
Khalifa | Seeking nothing in return. |
Hilali/Khan | And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, |

Literal | Except wishing/desiring his Lord's the highest's/mightiest's/most dignified's face/front (path). |

Yusuf Ali | But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; |
Pickthal | Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. |
Arberry | only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; |
Shakir | Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. |
Sarwar | except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High |

92:21 ولسوف يرضى |

Transliteration | Walasawfa yarda |
Literal | And he/He will/shall (E) accept/approve. |

Yusuf Ali | And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. |
Pickthal | He verily will be content. |
Arberry | and he shall surely be satisfied. |
Shakir | And he shall soon be well-pleased. |
Sarwar | and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. |
Khalifa | He will certainly attain salvation. |
Hilali/Khan | He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). |
H/K/Saheeh | And he is going to be satisfied. |
Malik | Such persons shall soon be well-pleased with Allah.[21] |
