‏79:1 سورة النازعات بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والنازعات غرقا

Transliteration	WaalnnaziAAati gharqan
Literal	And/by the strangers/life extractors , exaggerating/absorbing (violently) .

Yusuf Ali	By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;
Pickthal	By those who drag forth to destruction,
Arberry	By those that pluck out vehemently
Shakir	I swear by the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked,
Sarwar	By the angels who violently tear-out the souls of the disbelievers from their bodies,
Khalifa	The (angels who) snatch (the souls of the disbelievers) forcibly.
Hilali/Khan	By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence;
H/K/Saheeh	By those [angels] who extract with violence
Malik	By those angels who violently pull out the souls of the wrongdoers,[1]
QXP	Consider those who dive to bring up. (Pearls from the ocean. People from repression).
Maulana Ali	By those yearning vehemently!
Free Minds	By those that take the person forcibly.
Qaribullah	By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers),

George Sale	By the angels who tear forth the souls of some with violence;
JM Rodwell	By those angels who DRAG FORTH souls with violence,

Asad	CONSIDER those [stars] that rise only to set,

‏79:2 والناشطات نشطا

Transliteration	Waalnnashitati nashtan
Literal	And/by the active/pullers , actively/pulling .

Yusuf Ali	By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed);
Pickthal	By the meteors rushing,
Arberry	and those that draw out violently,
Shakir	And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed,
Sarwar	by the angels who gently release the souls of the believers,
Khalifa	And those who gently take (the souls of the believers) joyfully.
Hilali/Khan	By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers);
H/K/Saheeh	And [by] those who remove with ease
Malik	and those who gently draw out the souls of the righteous,[2]
QXP	And move steadily in jubilation, releasing (the oppressed from bondage).
Maulana Ali	And those going forth cheerfully!
Free Minds	And those that take the person gently.
Qaribullah	by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers),

George Sale	and by those who draw forth the souls of others with gentleness;
JM Rodwell	And by those who with joyous release release them;

Asad	and move [in their orbits] with steady motion,

‏79:3 والسابحات سبحا

Transliteration	Waalssabihati sabhan
Literal	And/by the ships/stars/fast (could be angels), tending to the livelihood/floating .

Yusuf Ali	And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy),
Pickthal	By the lone stars floating,
Arberry	by those that swim serenely
Shakir	And by those who float in space,
Sarwar	by the angels who float (in the heavens by the will of God),
Khalifa	And those floating everywhere.
Hilali/Khan	And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.).
H/K/Saheeh	And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming
Malik	and those who glide about swiftly through space,[3]
QXP	And working hard, swimming in strides.
Maulana Ali	And those running swiftly!
Free Minds	And those that swim along.
Qaribullah	by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently

George Sale	by those who glide swimmingly through the air with the commands of God;
JM Rodwell	By those who swim swimmingly along;

Asad	and float [through space] with floating serene,

an-Nazi'at 079:004

‏79:4 فالسابقات سبقا

Transliteration	Faalssabiqati sabqan
Literal	So the racing/surpassing/preceding, racing/surpassing/preceding.

Yusuf Ali	Then press forward as in a race,
Pickthal	By the angels hastening,
Arberry	and those that outstrip suddenly
Shakir	Then those who are foremost going ahead,
Sarwar	by the angels who hasten along
Khalifa	Eagerly racing with one another -
Hilali/Khan	And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.).
H/K/Saheeh	And those who race each other in a race
Malik	then speed headlong to carry out the commands of Allah,[4]
QXP	And then together racing to progress.
Maulana Ali	And those that are foremost going ahead!
Free Minds	And those that press forward in a race.
Qaribullah	and the outstrippers (angels), outstripping,

George Sale	and those who precede and usher the righteous to paradise;
JM Rodwell	By those who are foremost with foremost speed;

Asad	and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking:

an-Nazi'at 079:005

‏79:5 فالمدبرات امرا

Transliteration	Faalmudabbirati amran
Literal	So the regulators/arrangers/planners (of) a matter/affair/order/command.

Yusuf Ali	Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord),
Pickthal	And those who govern the event,
Arberry	by those that direct an affair!
Shakir	Then those who regulate the affair.
Sarwar	and by the angels who regulate the affairs, (you will certainly be resurrected).
Khalifa	to carry out various commands.
Hilali/Khan	And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account).
H/K/Saheeh	And those who arrange [each] matter,
Malik	and those who regulate the affairs of the world![5]
QXP	And thus taking charge of their matters.
Maulana Ali	And those regulating the Affair!
Free Minds	So as to carry out a command.
Qaribullah	by the managers (angels) affair.

George Sale	and those who subordinately govern the affairs of this world:
JM Rodwell	By those who conduct the affairs of the universe!

Asad	and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest!

an-Nazi'at 079:006

‏79:6 يوم ترجف الراجفة

Transliteration	Yawma tarjufu alrrajifatu
Literal	A day/time the first blow of the horn trembles and shakes/agitates .

Yusuf Ali	One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion,
Pickthal	On the day when the first trump resoundeth.
Arberry	Upon the day when the first blast shivers
Shakir	The day on which the quaking one shall quake,
Sarwar	On the day when the first trumpet sound blasts
Khalifa	The day the quake quakes.
Hilali/Khan	On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die),
H/K/Saheeh	On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],
Malik	The Day on which the quake shall cause a violent commotion,[6]
QXP	The Day when the tremulous trembles.
Maulana Ali	The day when the quaking one shall quake --
Free Minds	On the Day the ground shakes.
Qaribullah	On the Day, the shiverer shivers

George Sale	On a certain day, the disturbing blast of the trumpet shall disturb the universe;
JM Rodwell	One day, the disturbing trumpet-blast shall disturb it,

Asad	[HENCE, 4 think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world],

‏79:7 تتبعها الرادفة

Transliteration	TatbaAAuha alrradifatu
Literal	The followed closely behind follows it.

Yusuf Ali	Followed by oft-repeated (commotions):
Pickthal	And the second followeth it,
Arberry	and the second blast follows it,
Shakir	What must happen afterwards shall follow it.
Sarwar	and will be followed by the second one,
Khalifa	Followed by the second blow.
Hilali/Khan	The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be raised up),
H/K/Saheeh	There will follow it the subsequent [one].
Malik	which will be followed by another violent commotion,[7]
QXP	To be followed by the jolter. (The oppressors are shaken up again and again).
Maulana Ali	The consequence will follow it.
Free Minds	It will be followed by the second blow.
Qaribullah	followed by the succeeding,

George Sale	and the subsequent blast shall follow it.
JM Rodwell	Which the second blast shall follow:

Asad	to be followed by further [convulsions]!

an-Nazi'at 079:008

‏79:8 قلوب يومئذ واجفة

Transliteration	Quloobun yawma-ithin wajifatun
Literal	Hearts (on) that day (are) palpitating/pounding .

Yusuf Ali	Hearts that Day will be in agitation;
Pickthal	On that day hearts beat painfully
Arberry	hearts upon that day shall be athrob
Shakir	Hearts on that day shall palpitate,
Sarwar	hearts will undergo terrible trembling,.
Khalifa	Certain minds will be terrified.
Hilali/Khan	(Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety.
H/K/Saheeh	Hearts, that Day, will tremble,
Malik	and on that Day, hearts shall be pounding with terror[8]
QXP	Some hearts throb on that Day.
Maulana Ali	Hearts that day will palpitate,
Free Minds	Hearts on that Day will be terrified.
Qaribullah	hearts will throb on that Day

George Sale	On that day men's hearts shall tremble:
JM Rodwell	Men's hearts on that day shall quake:-

Asad	On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing,

‏79:9 ابصارها خاشعة

Transliteration	Absaruha khashiAAatun
Literal	Its eyesight/understanding (is) humble/submissive .

Yusuf Ali	Cast down will be (their owners') eyes.
Pickthal	While eyes are downcast
Arberry	and their eyes shall be humbled.
Shakir	Their eyes cast down.
Sarwar	and eyes will be humbly cast down.
Khalifa	Their eyes will be subdued.
Hilali/Khan	Their eyes cast down.
H/K/Saheeh	Their eyes humbled.
Malik	and sight shall be downcast.[9]
QXP	Their eyes subdued.
Maulana Ali	Their eyes downcast.
Free Minds	Their eyes cast down.
Qaribullah	and their eyes will be humbled.

George Sale	Their looks shall be cast down.
JM Rodwell	Their looks be downcast.

‏79:10 يقولون ائنا لمردودون في الحافرة

Transliteration	Yaqooloona a-inna lamardoodoona fee alhafirati
Literal	They say: "Are we returning (E) in the first creation ?"

Yusuf Ali	They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state?
Pickthal	(Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state
Arberry	They shall say, 'What, are we being restored as we were before?
Shakir	They say: Shall we indeed be restored to (our) first state?
Sarwar	(The disbelievers) say, "Shall we be brought back to life again
Khalifa	They will say, "We have been recreated from the grave!
Hilali/Khan	They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life?
H/K/Saheeh	They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?
Malik	The unbelievers say: "Shall we really be restored to our former state (life),[10]
QXP	They say, "What! Shall we ever be returned to the ditch of anonymity?" ('Hufrah' = Ditch = Not noteworthy = Lowly = Unremarkable = Insignificant).
Maulana Ali	They say: Shall we indeed be restored to (our) first state?
Free Minds	They will Say: "Shall we be returned to live our lives."
Qaribullah	They say: 'What, are we being restored as we were before,

George Sale	The infidels say, shall we surely be made to return whence we came?
JM Rodwell	The infidels will say, "Shall we indeed be restored as at first?

Asad	[And yet,] some say, "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state -

an-Nazi'at 079:011

‏79:11 ائذا كنا عظاما نخرة

Transliteration	A-itha kunna AAithaman nakhiratan
Literal	Is (it that) if we were decayed/decomposed bones.

Yusuf Ali	"What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?"
Pickthal	Even after we are crumbled bones?
Arberry	What, when we are bones old and wasted?'
Shakir	What! when we are rotten bones?
Sarwar	after we have become bones and dust?".
Khalifa	"How did this happen after we had turned into rotten bones?"
Hilali/Khan	"Even after we are crumbled bones?"
H/K/Saheeh	Even if we should be decayed bones?
Malik	when we shall have become hollow bones?"[11]
QXP	"Shall we ever weaken to skeletal strength?"
Maulana Ali	What! After we are rotten bones?
Free Minds	"Even after we were crumbled bones?"
Qaribullah	even after we are fragmented bones? '

George Sale	After we shall have become rotten bones, shall we be again raised to life?
JM Rodwell	What! when we have become rotten bones?"

Asad	even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?"

an-Nazi'at 079:012

‏79:12 قالوا تلك اذا كرة خاسرة

Transliteration	Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasiratun
Literal	They said: "That is then a loosing repetition ."

Yusuf Ali	They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!"
Pickthal	They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding.
Arberry	They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!'
Shakir	They said: That then would be a return occasioning loss.
Sarwar	They have said, "Such a resurrection will certainly be a great loss".
Khalifa	They had said, "This is an impossible recurrence."
Hilali/Khan	They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!"
H/K/Saheeh	They say, "That, then, would be a losing return."
Malik	They further say: "It would then be a fruitless restoration!"[12]
QXP	And they say, "In that case, then, it would be an investment of loss!"
Maulana Ali	They say: That would then be a return with loss.
Free Minds	They said: "This is an impossible recurrence."
Qaribullah	They will say: 'Then we are returned lost! '

George Sale	They say, this then will be a return to loss.
JM Rodwell	This then, say they, "will be a return to loss."

Asad	[And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!"

an-Nazi'at 079:013

‏79:13 فانما هي زجرة واحدة

Transliteration	Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahidatun
Literal	So but it is one deterrent/cry to drive out .

Yusuf Ali	But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry,
Pickthal	Surely it will need but one shout,
Arberry	But it shall be only a single scare,
Shakir	But it shall be only a single cry,
Sarwar	However, it will only take a single blast
Khalifa	All it takes is one nudge.
Hilali/Khan	But only, it will be a single Zajrah (shout (i.e., the second blowing of the Trumpet)). (See Verse 37:19).
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed, it will be but one shout,
Malik	They should know that it shall be only a single shout,[13]
QXP	But finally, it is a single swift call.
Maulana Ali	It is only a single cry,
Free Minds	But all it takes is one blow.
Qaribullah	But it will be only a single blow,

George Sale	Verily it will be but one sounding of the trumpet,
JM Rodwell	Verily, it will be but a single blast,

Asad	[But,] then, that [Last Hour] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry -

an-Nazi'at 079:014

‏79:14 فاذا هم بالساهرة

Transliteration	Fa-itha hum bialssahirati
Literal	So then they are at the Earth's surface .

Yusuf Ali	When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment).
Pickthal	And lo! they will be awakened.
Arberry	and behold, they are awakened.
Shakir	When lo! they shall be wakeful.
Sarwar	to bring them out of their graves and back to life on the earth's surface.
Khalifa	Whereupon they get up.
Hilali/Khan	When, behold, they find themselves over the earth alive after their death,
H/K/Saheeh	And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.
Malik	and they will be back to life in open plain.[14]
QXP	And, behold, they will be awakened!
Maulana Ali	When lo! they will be awakened.
Free Minds	Whereupon they will rise-up.
Qaribullah	and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive).

George Sale	and behold, they shall appear alive on the face of the earth.
JM Rodwell	And lo! they are on the surface of the earth.

Asad	and then, lo, they will be fully awakened [to the truth]!

‏79:15 هل اتاك حديث موسى

Transliteration	Hal ataka hadeethu moosa
Literal	Did Moses' information/speech come to you?

Yusuf Ali	Has the story of Moses reached thee?
Pickthal	Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses?
Arberry	Hast thou received the story of Moses?
Shakir	Has not there come to you the story of Musa?
Sarwar	(Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses
Khalifa	Have you known about the history of Moses?
Hilali/Khan	Has there come to you the story of Moosa (Moses)?
H/K/Saheeh	Has there reached you the story of Moses?
Malik	Have you heard the story of Moses?[15]
QXP	Has the story of Moses reached you? (Such a Revolution occurred in his times (20:9-98)).
Maulana Ali	Has not there come to thee the story of Moses,
Free Minds	Did the story of Moses come to you?
Qaribullah	Have you received the story of Moses?

George Sale	Hath not the story of Moses reached thee?
JM Rodwell	Hath the story of Moses reached thee?

Asad	HAS THE STORY of Moses ever come within thy ken.

an-Nazi'at 079:016

‏79:16 اذ ناداه ربه بالواد المقدس طوى

Transliteration	Ith nadahu rabbuhu bialwadi almuqaddasi tuwan
Literal	When His Lord called him at the Valley the Holy/Sanctified Tuwan/concealed/folded within :

Yusuf Ali	Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:-
Pickthal	How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa,
Arberry	When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa:
Shakir	When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice,
Sarwar	when his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa,.
Khalifa	His Lord called him at the holy valley of Tuwaa.
Hilali/Khan	When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Toowa,
H/K/Saheeh	When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
Malik	When His Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,[16]
QXP	When his Lord called him in the Sacred Valley of Revelation (18:60-64), (20:12).
Maulana Ali	When his Lord called him in the holy valley, Tuwa?
Free Minds	His Lord called him at the holy valley of Tuwa.
Qaribullah	His Lord called to him in the Sacred Valley of Towa,

George Sale	When his Lord called unto him in the holy valley Towa, saying,
JM Rodwell	When his Lord called to him in Towa's holy vale:

Asad	Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley:

an-Nazi'at 079:017

‏79:17 اذهب الى فرعون انه طغى

Transliteration	Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha
Literal	Go to Pharaoh, that he truly exceeded the limit/tyrannized .

Yusuf Ali	"Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds:
Pickthal	(Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled -
Arberry	'Go to Pharaoh; he has waxed insolent.
Shakir	Go to Firon, surely he has become inordinate.
Sarwar	saying, "Go to the Pharaoh. He has transgressed beyond all bounds.
Khalifa	"Go to Pharaoh; he has transgressed."
Hilali/Khan	Go to Firaun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.).
H/K/Saheeh	"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
Malik	and said: "Go to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds,[17]
QXP	"Go to Pharaoh. Behold, he has crossed all bounds of decency."
Maulana Ali	Go to Pharaoh, surely he has rebelled.
Free Minds	"Go to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed."
Qaribullah	saying 'Go to Pharaoh, he has become exceedingly insolent,

George Sale	go unto Pharaoh; for he is insolently wicked:
JM Rodwell	Go to Pharaoh, for he hath burst all bounds:

Asad	"Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right -

an-Nazi'at 079:018

‏79:18 فقل هل لك الى ان تزكى

Transliteration	Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka
Literal	So say: 'Is there for you that (E) you purify/become righteous ?'

Yusuf Ali	"And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?-
Pickthal	And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)?
Arberry	And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself;
Shakir	Then say: Have you (a desire) to purify yourself:
Sarwar	And say to him, "Would you like to reform yourself?.
Khalifa	Tell him, "Would you not reform?
Hilali/Khan	And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)",
H/K/Saheeh	And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself
Malik	and tell him, `Have you the desire to purify yourself?[18]
QXP	And ask him, "Are you willing to be a better person?" ('Zaku' = Grow in goodness = Develop the 'Self' = Get rid of evil behavior = Attain purity = Improve in conduct = Prime the 'Self' for actualization).
Maulana Ali	And say: Wilt thou purify thyself?
Free Minds	Tell him: "Would you not be purified?"
Qaribullah	and say: "Will you purify yourself,

George Sale	and say, hast thou a desire to become just and holy?
JM Rodwell	And say, "Wouldest thou become just?

Asad	and say[unto him], 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity?

an-Nazi'at 079:019

‏79:19 واهديك الى ربك فتخشى

Transliteration	Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha
Literal	'And I guide you to your Lord so you fear.'

Yusuf Ali	"'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'"
Pickthal	Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him).
Arberry	and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"'
Shakir	And I will guide you to your Lord so that you should fear.
Sarwar	I shall guide you to your Lord so that you may perhaps have fear of Him".
Khalifa	"Let me guide you to your Lord, that you may turn reverent."
Hilali/Khan	And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him?
H/K/Saheeh	And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"
Malik	If so, I shall guide you towards your Lord, so that you may fear Him.'"[19]
QXP	Then I will guide you to your Lord so that you will have some idea of His awesome Glory."
Maulana Ali	And I will guide thee to thy Lord so that thou fear (Him).
Free Minds	"And I will guide you to your Lord, that you may turn reverent."
Qaribullah	that I might guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)."

George Sale	And I will direct thee unto thy Lord, that thou mayest fear to transgress.
JM Rodwell	Then I will guide thee to thy Lord that thou mayest fear him."

Asad	[If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'"

an-Nazi'at 079:020

‏79:20 فاراه الاية الكبرى

Transliteration	Faarahu al-ayata alkubra
Literal	So he showed him/made him understand the verse/evidence/sign, the greatest/biggest .

Yusuf Ali	Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign.
Pickthal	And he showed him the tremendous token.
Arberry	So he showed him the great sign,
Shakir	So he showed him the mighty sign.
Sarwar	Moses showed him the great miracle
Khalifa	He then showed him the great miracle.
Hilali/Khan	Then (Moosa (Moses)) showed him the great sign (miracles).
H/K/Saheeh	And he showed him the greatest sign,
Malik	Then Moses showed Pharaoh the mighty sign,[20]
QXP	And then he presented to him the tremendous evidence of the Truth. (20:23).
Maulana Ali	So he showed him the mighty sign;
Free Minds	He then showed him the great miracle.
Qaribullah	He showed him the mighty sign,

George Sale	And he shewed him the very great sign of the rod turned into a serpent:
JM Rodwell	And he showed him a great miracle,-

Asad	And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace].

an-Nazi'at 079:021

‏79:21 فكذب وعصى

Transliteration	Fakaththaba waAAasa
Literal	So he denied/falsified , and he disobeyed.

Yusuf Ali	But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance);
Pickthal	But he denied and disobeyed,
Arberry	but he cried lies, and rebelled,
Shakir	But he rejected (the truth) and disobeyed.
Sarwar	but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses).
Khalifa	But he disbelieved and rebelled.
Hilali/Khan	But (Firaun (Pharaoh)) belied and disobeyed;
H/K/Saheeh	But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.
Malik	but he denied and disobeyed.[21]
QXP	But he denied and haughtily rejected.
Maulana Ali	But he denied and disobeyed.
Free Minds	But he disbelieved and rebelled.

Yusuf Ali	Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High".
Pickthal	And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."
Arberry	and proclaimed, and he said, 'I am your Lord, the Most High!'
Shakir	Then he said: I am your lord, the most high.
Sarwar	saying, "I am your supreme lord".
Khalifa	He said, "I am your Lord; most high."
Hilali/Khan	Saying: "I am your lord, most high",
H/K/Saheeh	And said, "I am your most exalted lord."
Malik	I am your lord, the most high.[24]

‏79:25 فاخذه الله نكال الاخرة والاولى

Transliteration	Faakhathahu Allahu nakala al-akhirati waal-oola
Literal	So God punished/took him (the) severe exemplary punishment (of) the end (other life) and the first/beginning.

Yusuf Ali	But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life.
Pickthal	So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.
Arberry	So God seized him with the chastisement of the Last World and the First.
Shakir	So Allah seized him with the punishment of the hereafter and the former life.
Sarwar	So God struck him with the torment of this life and the life hereafter.
Khalifa	Consequently, GOD committed him to the retribution in the Hereafter, as well as in the first life.
Hilali/Khan	So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last (i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)) and first ((i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)) transgression.
H/K/Saheeh	So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
Malik	Consequently, Allah seized him for punishment, both in the Hereafter and in this life.[25]
QXP	So Allah took him to task, and made him an example for the later generations and the ones who soon followed.
Maulana Ali	So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Hereafter and of this life.
Free Minds	So God seized him with retribution in the Hereafter, as well as in the first life.
Qaribullah	So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Everlasting Life, and of this world.

George Sale	Wherefore God chastised him with the punishment of the life to come, and also of this present life.

an-Nazi'at 079:026

‏79:26 ان في ذلك لعبرة لمن يخشى

Transliteration	Inna fee thalika laAAibratan liman yakhsha
Literal	That truly in that (is) an example/warning (E) to who fears.

Yusuf Ali	Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah).
Pickthal	Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.
Arberry	Surely in that is a lesson for him who fears!
Shakir	Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears.
Sarwar	In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God.
Khalifa	This is a lesson for the reverent.
Hilali/Khan	Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allah.
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allah].

‏79:27 ءانتم اشد خلقا ام السماء بناها

Transliteration	Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami alssamao banaha
Literal	Are you (a) stronger creation or the sky/space (which) He built/constructed it?

Yusuf Ali	What! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it:
Pickthal	Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built?
Arberry	What, are you stronger in constitution or the heaven He built?
Shakir	Are you the harder to create or the heaven? He made it.
Sarwar	(People), is your creation harder for God than that of the heavens, which He created, raised and established
Khalifa	Are you more difficult to create than the heaven? He constructed it.
Hilali/Khan	Are you more difficult to create, or is the heaven that He constructed?
H/K/Saheeh	Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it.
Malik	O mankind, is your creation harder than the heaven that He built?[27]
QXP	What! Are you the more difficult to create or is the heaven that He built?
Maulana Ali	Are you the stronger in creation or the heaven? He made it.
Free Minds	Are you a more powerful creation than the sky which He built?
Qaribullah	What, are you harder to create than the heaven which He has built?

Transliteration	RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha
Literal	He raised its height/thickness, so He straightened it.

Yusuf Ali	On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection.
Pickthal	He raised the height thereof and ordered it;
Arberry	He lifted up its vault, and levelled it,
Shakir	He raised high its height, then put it into a right good state.
Sarwar	high above?.
Khalifa	He raised its masses, and perfected it.
Hilali/Khan	He raised its height, and He has equally ordered it,

Yusuf Ali	Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light).
Pickthal	And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof.
Arberry	and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon;
Shakir	And He made dark its night and brought out its light.
Sarwar	He has made its nights dark and its days bright.

‏79:30 والارض بعد ذلك دحاها

Transliteration	Waal-arda baAAda thalika dahaha

Yusuf Ali	And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse);
Pickthal	And after that He spread the earth,
Arberry	and the earth-after that He spread it out,
Shakir	And the earth, He expanded it after that.
Sarwar	After this, He spread out the earth,
Khalifa	He made the earth egg-shaped.
Hilali/Khan	And after that He spread the earth;

‏79:31 اخرج منها ماءها ومرعاها

Literal	He brought out from it its water and its pasture.

Yusuf Ali	He draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture;
Pickthal	And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof,
Arberry	therefrom brought forth its waters and its pastures,
Shakir	He brought forth from it its water and its pasturage.

Khalifa	From it, He produced its own water and pasture.

Yusuf Ali	For use and convenience to you and your cattle.
Pickthal	A provision for you and for your cattle.
Arberry	an enjoyment for you and your flocks.
Shakir	A provision for you and for your cattle.
Sarwar	All this was done as a means of enjoyment for you and your cattle.
Khalifa	All this to provide life support for you and your animals.
Hilali/Khan	(To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.
H/K/Saheeh	As provision for you and your grazing livestock.
Malik	and made them beneficial for you and your cattle.[33]
QXP	A means of livelihood for you and your cattle.
Maulana Ali	A provision for you and for your cattle.
Free Minds	All this to be a provision for you and your livestock.
Qaribullah	an enjoyment for you and your herds.

George Sale	for the use of yourselves, and of your cattle.

an-Nazi'at 079:034

‏79:34 فاذا جاءت الطامة الكبرى

Transliteration	Fa-itha jaati alttammatu alkubra
Literal	So if/when the Calamity/Greatest Disaster/Resurrection Day the greatest came.

Yusuf Ali	Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),-
Pickthal	But when the great disaster cometh,
Arberry	Then, when the Great Catastrophe comes
Shakir	But when the great predominating calamity comes;
Sarwar	On the day when the great calamity comes,
Khalifa	Then, when the great blow comes.
Hilali/Khan	But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense, etc.),
H/K/Saheeh	But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity
Malik	When the great disaster will strike,[34]
QXP	And so, when there comes the Great Event,
Maulana Ali	So when the great Calamity comes;
Free Minds	Then, when the great blow comes.
Qaribullah	But when the Great Catastrophe comes,

George Sale	When the prevailing, the great day shall come,

an-Nazi'at 079:035

‏79:35 يوم يتذكر الانسان ماسعى

Transliteration	Yawma yatathakkaru al-insanu ma saAAa
Literal	A day/time the human/mankind remembers/recites what he strived/endeavored .

Yusuf Ali	The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for,
Pickthal	The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour,
Arberry	upon the day when man shall remember what he has striven,
Shakir	The day on which man shall recollect what he strove after,
Sarwar	the human being will recall whatever he has done.
Khalifa	That is the day when the human will remember everything he did.
Hilali/Khan	The Day when man shall remember what he strove for,
H/K/Saheeh	The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,
Malik	the Day when man will call to mind all that he had striven for.[35]
QXP	On that Day man will remember all that he has ever done. (53:39), (56:63-73).
Maulana Ali	The day when man remembers all that he strove for,
Free Minds	The Day when the human remembers all that he strove for.
Qaribullah	the Day when the human will remember what he has worked for,

George Sale	on that day shall a man call to remembrance what he hath purposely done:
JM Rodwell	The day when a man shall reflect on the pains that he hath taken,

Asad	on that Day man will [clearly] remember all that he has ever wrought;

an-Nazi'at 079:036

‏79:36 وبرزت الجحيم لمن يرى

Transliteration	Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara
Literal	And the Hell was made to emerge to who sees/understands.

Yusuf Ali	And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,-
Pickthal	And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth,
Arberry	and Hell is advanced for whoever sees,
Shakir	And the hell shall be made manifest to him who sees
Sarwar	Hell fire will become visible for those who would see it.
Khalifa	Hell will be brought into existence.
Hilali/Khan	And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees,
H/K/Saheeh	And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see
Malik	When hell shall be placed in full view of all,[36]
QXP	And the Insurmountable Barrier will stand before him who finds it before him (he failed to prime his 'Self' for the felicitous development in the Hereafter (29:54), (39:48), (82:16)).
Maulana Ali	And hell is made manifest to him who sees.
Free Minds	And Hell will be apparent to all who can see.
Qaribullah	and when Hell is advanced for whoever sees,

George Sale	And hell shall be exposed to the view of the spectator.
JM Rodwell	And Hell shall be in full view of all who are looking on;

Asad	and the blazing fire [of hell] will be lad open before all who [are destined to] see it.

an-Nazi'at 079:037

‏79:37 فاما من طغى

Transliteration	Faamma man tagha
Literal	So but who exceeded the limit/tyrannized/became arrogant.

Yusuf Ali	Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds,
Pickthal	Then, as for him who rebelled
Arberry	then as for him who was insolent
Shakir	Then as for him who is inordinate,
Sarwar	Those who have rebelled
Khalifa	As for the one who transgressed.
Hilali/Khan	Then, for him who Tagha (transgressed all bounds, in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allah).
H/K/Saheeh	So as for he who transgressed

Transliteration	Waathara alhayata alddunya

Yusuf Ali	And had preferred the life of this world,
Pickthal	And chose the life of the world,
Arberry	and preferred the present life,
Shakir	And prefers the life of this world,
Sarwar	and preferred the worldly life,
Khalifa	Who was preoccupied with this life.
Hilali/Khan	And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts),
H/K/Saheeh	And preferred the life of the world,
Malik	and preferred the life of this world[38]
QXP	And fell for instant gratifications, ('Hayat-id-duniya' = Life of this world = Short term = Instant gains = Disregard of the life to come).
Maulana Ali	And prefers the life of this world,
Free Minds	And he was preoccupied with the worldly life.
Qaribullah	preferring the present life,

George Sale	and shall have chosen this present life;
JM Rodwell	And hath chosen this present life,

Asad	and preferred the life of this world [to the good of his soul],

an-Nazi'at 079:039

‏79:39 فان الجحيم هي الماوى

Transliteration	Fa-inna aljaheema hiya alma/wa
Literal	So then the Hell , it is the shelter/refuge.

Yusuf Ali	The Abode will be Hell-Fire;
Pickthal	Lo! hell will be his home.
Arberry	surely Hell shall be the refuge.
Shakir	Then surely the hell, that is the abode.
Sarwar	hell will be their dwelling.
Khalifa	Hell will be the abode.
Hilali/Khan	Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire;
H/K/Saheeh	Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.
Malik	shall have his abode in hell.[39]
QXP	Behold, the (foot of) the Insurmountable Barrier will be his home.
Maulana Ali	Hell is surely the abode.
Free Minds	Then Hell will be the abode.
Qaribullah	surely, Hell will be their refuge.

George Sale	verily hell shall be his abode:
JM Rodwell	Verily, Hell-that shall be his dwelling-place:

an-Nazi'at 079:040

‏79:40 واما من خاف مقام ربه ونهى النفس عن الهوى

Transliteration	Waama man khafa maqama rabbihi wanaha alnnafsa AAani alhawa
Literal	And but who feared his Lord's position/status and he forbid/prevented the self from the self attraction for desire .

Yusuf Ali	And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires,
Pickthal	But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,
Arberry	But as for him who feared the Station of his Lord and forbade the soul its caprice,
Shakir	And as for him who fears to stand in the presence of his Lord and forbids the soul from low desires,
Sarwar	However, those who had feared their Lord and restrained their souls from acting according to its desires.
Khalifa	As for the one who reverenced the majesty of his Lord, and enjoined the self from sinful lusts.
Hilali/Khan	But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts.
H/K/Saheeh	But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
Malik	But he who had feared standing before his Lord and curbed his evil desires[40]
QXP	But the one who feared standing before his Sustainer and restrained his selfish desire,
Maulana Ali	And as for him who fears to stand before his Lord and restrains himself from low desires,
Free Minds	And as for the one who reverenced the majesty of his Lord, and restrained himself from desire.
Qaribullah	But, whosoever feared the standing before his Lord and prevented the self from desires,

George Sale	But whoso shall have dreaded the appearing before his Lord, and shall have refrained his soul from lust;
JM Rodwell	But as to him who shall have feared the majesty of his Lord, and shall have refrained his soul from lust,

Asad	But unto him who shall have stood in fear of his Sustainer's Presence, and held back his inner self from base desires,

an-Nazi'at 079:041

‏79:41 فان الجنة هي الماوى

Transliteration	Fa-inna aljannata hiya alma/wa
Literal	So then the Paradise/treed garden, it is the shelter/refuge.

Yusuf Ali	Their abode will be the Garden.
Pickthal	Lo! the Garden will be his home.
Arberry	surely Paradise shall be the refuge.
Shakir	Then surely the garden-- that is the abode.
Sarwar	Paradise will be the dwelling.
Khalifa	Paradise will be the abode.
Hilali/Khan	Verily, Paradise will be his abode.
H/K/Saheeh	Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.
Malik	shall have his home in paradise.[41]
QXP	Behold, the Paradise will be his home.
Maulana Ali	The Garden is surely the abode.
Free Minds	The Paradise will be the abode.
Qaribullah	indeed, their refuge shall be Paradise.

an-Nazi'at 079:042

‏79:42 يسألونك عن الساعة ايان مرساها

Transliteration	Yas-aloonaka AAani alssaAAati ayyana mursaha
Literal	They ask/question you about the Hour/Resurrection when (is) its landing ?

Yusuf Ali	They ask thee about the Hour,-'When will be its appointed time?
Pickthal	They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port?
Arberry	They will question thee concerning the Hour, when it shall berth.
Shakir	They ask you about the hour, when it will come.
Sarwar	(Muhammad), they ask you, "When will the Hour of Doom come?".
Khalifa	They ask you about the Hour, and when it will take place!
Hilali/Khan	They ask you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) about the Hour, - when will be its appointed time?
H/K/Saheeh	They ask you, [O Muúammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?
Malik	They ask you about the hour: "When will it come?"[42]
QXP	They ask you of the Hour, "When will it come to pass?"
Maulana Ali	They ask thee about the Hour, When will that take place,
Free Minds	They ask you about the Hour: "When is its appointed time?"
Qaribullah	They will question you about the Hour: 'When shall it be? '

George Sale	They will ask thee concerning the last hour, when will be the fixed time thereof.
JM Rodwell	They will ask thee of "the Hour," when will be its fixed time?

Asad	THEY WILL ASK thee [O Prophet] about the Last Hour: "When will it come to pass?"

an-Nazi'at 079:043

‏79:43 فيم انت من ذكراها

Transliteration	Feema anta min thikraha
Literal	In what you are from mentioning/remembering it (what do you know about it or its time)?

Yusuf Ali	Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof?
Pickthal	Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof?
Arberry	What art thou about, to mention it?
Shakir	About what! You are one to remind of it.
Sarwar	(Muhammad), you do not know (when and how) it will come.
Khalifa	It is not you (Muhammad) who is destined to announce its time.
Hilali/Khan	You have no knowledge to say anything about it,
H/K/Saheeh	In what [position] are you that you should mention it?
Malik	But it is not for you to know or tell its timing.[43]
QXP	Why? What do you have to tell them about it? (7:187), (33:63), (42:17).
Maulana Ali	About which thou remindest?
Free Minds	You have no knowledge if it.
Qaribullah	But how are you to know?

George Sale	By what means canst thou give any information of the same?
JM Rodwell	But what knowledge hast thou of it?

Asad	[But] how couldst thou tell anything about it,

an-Nazi'at 079:044

‏79:44 الى ربك منتهاها

Transliteration	Ila rabbika muntahaha
Literal	To your Lord (is) its ultimate/absolute end.

Yusuf Ali	With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor.
Pickthal	Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.
Arberry	Unto thy Lord is the final end of it.
Shakir	To your Lord is the goal of it.
Sarwar	This matter is in the hands of your Lord.
Khalifa	Your Lord decides its fate.
Hilali/Khan	To your Lord belongs (the knowledge of) the term thereof?
H/K/Saheeh	To your Lord is its finality.
Malik	Only your Lord knows when it will come.[44]
QXP	Unto your Lord is the culmination of it. (53:42).
Maulana Ali	To thy Lord is the goal of it.
Free Minds	To your Lord is its term.
Qaribullah	Its final end is for your Lord.

George Sale	Unto thy Lord belongeth the knowledge of the period thereof:
JM Rodwell	Its period is known only to thy Lord;

Asad	[seeing that] with thy Sustainer alone rests the beginning and the end [of all knowledge] thereof?

an-Nazi'at 079:045

‏79:45 انما انت منذر من يخشاها

Transliteration	Innama anta munthiru man yakhshaha
Literal	Truly/but you are a warner/giver of notice (to) who fears it.

Yusuf Ali	Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it.
Pickthal	Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.
Arberry	Thou art only the warner of him who fears it.
Shakir	You are only a warner to him who would fear it.
Sarwar	You are only a warner for those who fear such a day.
Khalifa	Your mission is to warn those who expect it.
Hilali/Khan	You (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) are only a warner for those who fear it,
H/K/Saheeh	You are only a warner for those who fear it.
Malik	You are but a Warner to him who fears it.[45]
QXP	You are but a Warner unto him who stands in awe of it.
Maulana Ali	Thou art only a warner to him who fears it.
Free Minds	You are simply to warn those who fear it.
Qaribullah	You are but a warner for those who fear it.

George Sale	And thou art only a warner, who fearest the same.
JM Rodwell	And thou art only charged with the warning of those who fear it.

Asad	Thou art but [sent] to warn those who stand in awe of it.

an-Nazi'at 079:046

‏79:46 كانهم يوم يرونها لم يلبثوا الا عشية او ضحاها

Transliteration	Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lam yalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
Literal	As if they are, a day/time they see it, they did not stay/remain/wait (in their graves) except an evening or its daybreak/forenoon 456

Yusuf Ali	The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn!
Pickthal	On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.
Arberry	It shall be as if; on the day they see it, they have but tarried for an evening, or its forenoon.
Shakir	On the day that they see it, it will be as though they had not tarried but the latter part of a day or the early part of it.
Sarwar	On the day when they see it, it will seem to them as though they had only lived in the world for a morning and an afternoon.
Khalifa	The day they see it, they will feel as if they lasted one evening or half a day.
Hilali/Khan	The Day they see it, (it will be) as if they had not tarried (in this world) except an afternoon or a morning
H/K/Saheeh	It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.
Malik	On that Day when they shall see it, they shall feel as if they had stayed in this world only one evening or one morning.[46]
QXP	On the Day when they see it, it will be as if they had lived no longer than an evening or its morning.
Maulana Ali	On the day when they see it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or a morning.
Free Minds	For the Day they see it, it will be as if they had remained one evening or half a day.
Qaribullah	On the Day when they behold it, it will be as if they had lingered but an evening, or, a morning.

George Sale	The day whereon they shall see the same, it shall seem to them as though they had not tarried in the world longer than an evening, or a morning thereof.
JM Rodwell	On the day when they shall see it, it shall seem to them as though they had not tarried in the tomb, longer than its evening or its morn.

Asad	On the Day when they behold it, [it will seem to them] as if they had tarried [in this world] no longer than one evening or [one night, ending with] its morn!
