Literal | And/by the strangers/life extractors , exaggerating/absorbing (violently) . |

Yusuf Ali | Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), |
Pickthal | And those who govern the event, |
Arberry | by those that direct an affair! |
Shakir | Then those who regulate the affair. |
Sarwar | and by the angels who regulate the affairs, (you will certainly be resurrected). |
Khalifa | to carry out various commands. |
Hilali/Khan | And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account). |

Sarwar | (The disbelievers) say, "Shall we be brought back to life again |

Yusuf Ali | They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" |
Pickthal | They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. |
Arberry | They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' |
Shakir | They said: That then would be a return occasioning loss. |
Sarwar | They have said, "Such a resurrection will certainly be a great loss". |
Khalifa | They had said, "This is an impossible recurrence." |

79:13 فانما هي زجرة واحدة |

Literal | So but it is one deterrent/cry to drive out . |

Yusuf Ali | But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, |
Pickthal | Surely it will need but one shout, |
Arberry | But it shall be only a single scare, |
Shakir | But it shall be only a single cry, |

H/K/Saheeh | But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, |
Malik | But he who had feared standing before his Lord and curbed his evil desires[40] |
QXP | But the one who feared standing before his Sustainer and restrained his selfish desire, |
Maulana Ali | And as for him who fears to stand before his Lord and restrains himself from low desires, |
Free Minds | And as for the one who reverenced the majesty of his Lord, and restrained himself from desire. |

Pickthal | Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof? |
Arberry | What art thou about, to mention it? |
Shakir | About what! You are one to remind of it. |
Sarwar | (Muhammad), you do not know (when and how) it will come. |
Khalifa | It is not you (Muhammad) who is destined to announce its time. |

Literal | As if they are, a day/time they see it, they did not stay/remain/wait (in their graves) except an evening or its daybreak/forenoon 456 |

Yusuf Ali | The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn! |
Pickthal | On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof. |
